Caught the Bug
Great pics. I've heard good stuff about the castle. Still need to get down there one of these days.
Worth the trip to hit the castle, San Isabel and Salida. A beautiful drive.

Thanks for sharing, catahoula. My wife and I and a group of friends head out to the Salida area every year in August for a week long camping/exploring trip. We prefer camping and usually camp at Heart Of The Rockies, west of Salida on HWY 50, we have stayed at The Tudor Rose in Salida before. If you are looking for a cabin to rent, especially if it is a few couples or perhaps a group of people, their Chalet's, as they call them, are pretty decent and the owners are very nice people to deal with.
I know there are cabins to rent along Chalk Creek Road headed towards St. Elmo that look pretty cool. Also, on the west side of Tincup Pass there are cabins to rent as well.
San Isabel Forest is a beautiful place to visit for sure, in the summer months you just have to watch out for all the trail lice (razors), they're everywhere!
Looking to get out in the next month for a weekend away with the family, so pics and recommendations appreciated. Thanks!
Some great places to take your family I posted up. St. Elmo you can feed the Chipmunks by hand and they crawl all over you. There are some pics on the net of them. Pretty cool.
America's version of Saint Mark's Square? Famous for pigeons eating corn off people. I had one actually peck a kernel off my tongue.
I'll check out..what are the trail lice (razors)? I hope it is not what I found on internet.
These were found in Maryland.

That is Gold Camp Road. It used to connect all the way up to Cripple Creek until one of the old train tunnels collapsed.
Yeah theirs a lower parking lot you can hike out of and see the collapsed tunnel.
It used to be a hangout for the "cool kids" back in the day. I wouldn't go out there with protection but that's just me. It's a beautiful area nonetheless.
Oops I meant like I would bring a pistol because of wild life and wild homeless lol
Thanks for posting this, I was looking for something to explore this weekend
If anyone wants to team up and see what we can pm me and we can coordinate something on the fly
