Use this link to check road status prior to going out:
http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/arp/recreation/?cid=stelprdb5339508. With the snow we've had this year, hard to predict when roads will be open. There is so much out here in our area, possibilities are endless. For road trips, there's Breckenridge, Grand Lake, Aspen, Estes Park, tons more! We drive the peak to peak hwy many Sundays just for fun, go from Lyons to Estes then South to Denver and back home. As far as offroad, as I said earlier, too early to predict. Any of those forest roads that are open, you can camp off of for free and get away from crowds. Most are not near lakes though for fishing. Not many obstacles on the trails up here, nothing too tough. I would always care basic tools like sockets/wrenches, duct tape, zip ties, tire repair kits, straps etc. #1 tip, make sure someone knows where you'll be and when you'll be returning. You could always buy a Spot messenger too to let someone know your ok via GPS satellite.
