I saw someone with a Jk that had the EVO bolt on coil overs AND King shocks. I'm not extremely good at mechanical stuff, but I feel like that really defeats the point of the coil overs lol

If this is what you're referring to that shock is supposed to be there. This is the EVO Double Throwdown system and that shock is a bypass design.
It supplements the coilover and allows extra adjustability. Check out their website or just google EVO Double Throwdown. If you already know this disregard!
