What is this Manual Transmission noise?

Thanks, I appreciate it but, what I really want to know more than anything is 1) what is wrong and 2) will they be able to fix it for sure. If so, I would be willing to pay to get this fixed. If not, I might just look into other options.

That is very true. Very curious to what is causing this in Moby and others rigs.

And that's it. That's a lot of cash for a problem that's obviously on mopars end and not a user issue.

Just got caught up on the last few posts. 1275 is too much for a maybe fix. They have to have a clue with a number like that. Or so one would think.
 
Ok, dealership contacted me yesterday and wanted the vehicle today. Dropped it off this morning. Chrysler responded by saying it was the shifter knob as stated previously in my posts but didn't address the syncros mentioned in the star case.
So they are going to look at the tranny again and potentially work on syncros. More to come.

Good luck to you. I tried pricing out a rebuilt tranny and that would set me back $3150. I pushed to get an idea of what could be wrong and they said they wouldn't know for sure until they took it apart but assumed it might have something to do with the shift arm. I asked how much I might be looking at parts for the worst case scenario and they said about $500. So, it looks like I could be out as much as $1775 and who knows for sure if it'll actually get fixed.

Did you even pay that much for the Engine/Trans when you did the swap? Found a few rebuilt, with shipping/1 year warrenty included for less.

Well, good luck. I have had to really twist the dealership's arm on this and we still are not out of it yet. They have been very resistant but admit that there is a problem. Like you said, shifter lever where it connects with the transmission is a potential area they are looking at. The fingers could be bent and also the syncros are another area of concern. I am just hoping by the end of the day today, I know they are on a path to fixing it and not "this is normal" type attitude.
 
Wow just read this thread. I have a manual 2012 bought last Dec. with a little over 15k on it. I haven't had any problems yet with any of the issues described in this thread.

I hope I don't, and I hope you guys can get your issues fixed! I will definitely be watching this thread to see what the outcome is.

I have a 2013 JKUR with 600 miles. I have the same noise half way through 2nd and going into 3 and fourth gears. Loudest in 3rd. What should I do?
 
I would document like I did and address with your dealer. If you wait you can also use any additional data I obtain from my experience. Should know later today or tomorrow.

Well here we go:

After 2 visits and trying to get the dealership to identify and fix the problem, the end result is the problem is "normal". Got to love car manufacturers.

The invoice reads: "Shifter rattle, gear whine are normal conditions in nsg370 transmission and all standard transmission, shifter attaches directly to gear box and transmits normal gear noise, noise will change due to trans. temp, trans brake in and fluid changes in viscosity, operating as designed."

In regards to the star case, it appears those steps that I questioned were optional, even though there is nothing labeled optional nor does it give the technicians any other option besides do each step. But, they say it is optional. What do you do?

So I had them document all of this on the invoice so that I can CYA later in life. Besides that I think I am giving up avoiding anymore stress on this issue. Unless someone else finds something new that I can pursue.

Sry to hear this , but like a movie script . thats what im sure they are told to conceal or say in there own terms are all that matters. Its much easier to just say thats what its supposed to do rt ? I hope everything works out ,keep us informed it would take quite a bit of good people like you to complain and keep complaining till they decide to recall (if it fails) or give a real reason why its happening at all !! Have this same issue

Hey guys - my 2012 with 12,500 miles on it (problem started at around 3k miles) makes the same noises but *much* louder and more noticeable in every single gear. I get rattles, clanks, lurches on take off - you name it... my engine even ticks suuuuper loud. The dealership tells me this is all normal - even the chrysler rep that came out told me I was 'imagining things'.

At any rate, they tell me this is all normal but they're replacing my Jeep after taking it in for service ~12 times and not receiving one iota of this so called elusive 'service'. I know this noise isn't normal. I had a 2008, a 2011, and now this 2012 - all 6 speed manuals - and only this 2012 ever had these ridiculous problems. Unfortunately, this has prompted me to replace my '12 manual for a '13 auto - and it breaks my heart. :grayno:

Keep fighting the good fight. Chrysler will continue to tell everyone they are 'normal' noises so long as people put up with that answer. :beer:
