Just a reminder, a CB Radio is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for this trip. If you've already got one, please post up a pic so that we can remind all those who don't have that they'll be left out of the fun!
Also, if you're not a fan of CB radios because you can't hear anything, you've got weeks to get it dialed in. First and foremost, you NEED TO MAKE SURE that it's installed correctly. As in, it is very important to have the shoulders of the nylon washer sitting INSIDE the mount bracket hole. The stud MUST NOT make contact with the bracket. See diagram below for proper installation. Proper installation alone will make a HUGE DIFFERENCE in the performance of your CB!
Also, IF you have your antenna mounted on your tailgate, you NEED TO MAKE SURE that it's grounded to the frame using a heavy gauge wire or ground strap.
Last but not least, you'll get the most out of your CB Radio IF you make sure to tune your antenna. In order to do this, you will need an SWR meter like the one shown here:
IF you are using a portable antenna with a magnetic base, you will not need to ground anything or tune the antenna.
