TUCKED or UNTUCKED - What "Look" do You Prefer?

The look of untucked gives a certain aggressive look especially with flat fenders. That’s the look I like and appreciate


I feel when tires are tucked underneath a nice pair of fenders it give the impression you aren’t willing to get a little dirty.
 
Untucked:: More room to tuck big tires with LCG.

I voted flat. I don't like the puffy Fisher-Price look of the stock JK bumpers and the stock JK flares don't make it with most after-market steel bumpers.
 
Well clearance is the #1 issue here for sure, but based on looks the factory fenders just make the jeep look fat to me. (here comes JeepFan's jokes!) The trimmed fenders have a cleaner look.

Tucked:
1. Keeps the rocks and mud better controlled.
2. Keeps the marker lights more visible.
3. Makes the tires look larger and more aggressive.

Having said that, if I lived in an area where I had to worry more about rock crawling and flex, I’d probably trim mine.

I prefer the oem tucked look. I personally like to keep my Jeep as oem looking as possible. If clearance was ever an issue I guess I would then go with the highline fender to keep that stock look. Plus I'm too much of a chicken shit to hack my Jeep!

I dig the trimmed or flat look. However, because I only have a 2.5" lift and 33s I have not trimmed mine yet. Once I can upgrade my axles and gears I will go with larger tires, 35s or maybe 37s. Then I will trim for sure. I like the metal fenders as well but have heard on WAL that on the trail if you bump them, they dent stuff so I am torn.
 
I voted tucked, although I am really conflicted as Jeeps can look great either way, they can look very clean with painted stock/stock style flares, or super aggressive with aftermarket tube/flat/cut stock flares.

I'm currently running PS flares...but kinda wish I stayed with stock flares...I'm not going to be on 40s in the near future unless those Powerball numbers come thru...
 
I prefer the look of tucked over trimmed factory, but probably the look of aftermarket steel/aluminum over both tucked and trimmed factory. I know it's a Jeep, but I still like some level of sophistication and the trimmed factory fenders just look too dedicated "trail rig" for my tastes.
 
Sorry, could you be more specific on this? Proportionate in what way?

Since pictures are worth 1000 words, I'm going to post some pics of what I mean.
When I bought my Jeep it came with a 2.5" lift and 285/70r17 tires. Although the Jeep did not look aggressive enough for what I want, the size of the tires never bothered me. But after I trimmed my fenders, I develop tire envy. The fender trimmed made the tires look tiny. Overall, I would always trim or run tube fenders. But I would do it together with lift and tires.

There is a magic formula between tire size, and wheel gap that achieves that clean balanced look.... Its all about the Gap.... The problem with the Jk High fenders is the bevel at the body is too big and ugly... The JL looks way more refined and thought out. I also think the stock JK fender looks good but the lip is too tall and lacks clearance because of the liners... Flat fenders tend to look better with 37’s or 40’s....

I will be running 3” lift, 35’s and will trim the stock lip so its about 3/4” tall and remove the liners.... Hopefully travel will be fine... if not, I will have no choice but to go “flat”.

I choose “tucked” (meaning no shortening of width) on 35’s... And “untucked” (meaning shortening fender width & “flat” on 37’s or greater. I don’t know how to vote! Lol

Edit: I voted “Untucked” because my ideal setup is 37’s LCG with flat trimmed or aftermarket with about 3” of tire sticking out.

I just like the way it looks with everything tucked. I like the fact that the fenders keep mud from being slung all over the Jeep and everyone behind you as well.
 
I prefer untucked over tucked for appearance only. I can go either way. Currently, I am only running untucked due to an unfortunate incident with my mailbox, otherwise I would still have my stock fenders on.

And yes, she stopped complaining about the mailbox having a dent from the neighborhood kids.

I like the “tucked” in look and factory fenders personally. I have had Jeeps of all years: ‘76 CJ7, ‘97 TJ, ‘14 JK, and now ‘17 JKU... and I have maintained a relatively stock appearance on all of them. Although, I get it, I live in Indiana, and we have very few trails with any elevation. I’ve never needed anything bigger than 33s to get me anywhere around here. I am currently running a 2.5” Teraflex Dualsport lift with 315/70r17 BFG KO2 on stock wheels with 1.5” spacers. I love the proportions, and get a ton of complements on the stance. Tires sit outside of fenders approx 1/2” at most. Maybe one day I’ll have a $million to build a rock crawler and I will feel differently about the “looks,” but until then, I’ll stick with tucked.
