Short answer- I was there
I had spent 15 minutes trying other options and neither NETAAA or I felt confident it wasn't going to flop. The consensus was this was the safest option (backing down was worse) with only two jeeps including mine if it went to shit.
Long answer- It's hard to tell in the pic but this was shot looking straight up the hill from 6-8 below. I was already a bit off camber tilting left, the right side was maybe 18" higher then the left just sitting there. The left front tire was about to drop into a 2' hole at the same time the left rear felt it might slip down 4-5' to the ditch. The front right tire was against maybe a three foot face so I couldn't turn turn the wheel to the right up the hill at all until I went forward a few feet. The winch line is actually angled up the hill to the right on a low rock keeping pressure pulling down hard on the front end while aiming the nose up the hill kind of like a rock on a string. With both left tires dropping hard left at the same time and previously having a wheel in the air without the winch on the first attempt I went this route. I was hoping there would be enough pressure pulling up the hill and to the right as I went down that I would be able to gas it a bit if needed as I hit the bottom of the ditch. Confidence wasn't high.
