Trail Recon...

We have issue here where a local news outlet did a report on an area some high school kids threw a huge grad party and left shit everywhere.
It was a good area close to town , only an hour. The news portrayed the area as the party place for grads and it took off like wild fire. the parties got larger and worse because they all thought it was a no mans land lacking in rules. anything goes mentality . Well it of course pushed out the regulars who would maintain it and its a shit hole area now needing closure. so they closed it . now no one has access to the majority of the area. all because the news gave directions to the place. (this in turn also spread the people to find other areas. ) this goes back about 20 years or so and we still are fighting the grad parties and raves in certain areas.

I know of thousands of miles of trails here and I don't tell anyone outside my core group how to get to them. It broke my heart to have the area destroyed by these people, they have no investment in what we see as the attraction of using the area. The last thing I want to do is be a contributing factor to the destruction of any area I have used all because they may have got the information from me.

I heard that there is a place called "Sand Hollow" in Utah which is a great place to go rock crawling. Please do not share this location with others!
 
This isn't hard to understand people. A good trail is like a good fishing spot if you tell people about your good fishing spot it won't be good anymore.

I will share my favorite hunting spot in Colorado with you all as well. Plentiful elk, more bear that you can shake a stick at and tons of mule deer. I’m successful every year and a new hunter can go there and kill anything they want. I’m going to post it on Facebook, Instagram, Twatter, Tick Tock and YouTube.

I can only assume your remark is in regards to the following sticky that I've posted:

PLEASE - DO NOT Post Up GPS Coordinates or Trail Directions on WAYALIFE

I know it may sound like a crazy concept to some but back in the day, in order to find places to explore, you needed to read history books and pour over paper maps to look for trails and possible routes. For harder trails, you could only learn about and wheel them by getting to know people...

I’m not sure if your being genuine or attempting to be douche over Eddie’s request, either way I’m enjoying the book and do Not plan on sharing GPS data.

I am totally respectful of it and do believe/adhere to it. It was just an attempt at humor and to show that some things are really black vs white decisions.

As far as sharing locations goes, some YouTubers are providing location info to their Patreon members. They may appear to be following rules in their videos but then they are essentially selling the data on the side.

Some places are already extremely well known while others are not.

Interestingly, I have visited some trails in the book and they were not trashed. Some seldom-visited places are extremely trashed. The price of spray-paint is obviously too low.

What some "YouTubers" do or provide to people who pay them money, is not something that I can control. Here on my forum, a place I allow people like you to use for FREE, I would prefer to not be a part of the problem that I see them proliferating. I really couldn't care less where you have visited but if any were in fact "extremely trashed", I would question just how "seldom-visited" they really are.

Here is a thread I started almost 10 years ago. Back before some popular "YouTubers" were even around. I could add a LOT more to the list of places that I have seen destroyed since that time.

I do not share GPS data (unless it is to some random spot in the middle of the ocean). The same way that I don't throw trash on the ground or write stuff on the wall in a restroom.
