Or you can get the ace gate keeper. You can put Rotopax a high lift and a CB antenna on it it's pretty cool.

Depending on what parts you have on your rig already, I would try to stick with the same company if it were me.

Does it throw your balance off having not weight by the tires and tire carrier off?

I wouldn't say the lack of weight throws off the balance, but you can certainly feel the difference while driving. I guess that would depend on what size tire you have back there too.
