Time to replace the Toyos

Well, my 37" Toyo Open Country MTs have lasted almost 40K miles.

While they still have some life left, I figured I might as well replace them before upcoming adventure to Moab.

It's going to be a long day...

Time to get started...

I I have had really good luck with the Toyos so I bought another set.

Here we go!

Stay tuned for progress notes and pics.

Slightly off topic, but how did you get your hard top up on that lift? Is some sort of crank involved, or did you just muscle it up there? It's about that time of year and I need to find a way to get mine up off the garage floor.

Looks like you wore those 40's down pretty good. Forty thousand is a lotta miles. New shoes always feel great.:yup:

After about 10 minutes of working the hi-lift jack around the back of the tire, the bead broke loose.

I installed anchors in the ceiling of the garage, added hooks to two 2x4s and used Rachel straps.

If you got over 40,000 on the M/T I think I am going to reconsider getting those. It looks like you still have quite a bit of tread let as well.

Warning! There may be some strong language in the next few posts.

Finally got the tire off the rim.

Tire irons do help.

Time to clean the bolt and rim threads

This is also a good time to replace the valve stems.

Tony, are you replacing the bolts on the slabs? Obviously don't need to but I remember seeing someone post about getting ready to replace tires and we're going to replace their bolts while they were at it.

Nope. Using the same bolts. Cleaned them up real good. Threads look fine. Now wondering if I should have.

I don't know squat, as I have yet to mount mine except for the spare but I know that the bolts on that one are rusting badly. And it's only been a month! Good luck!! It's a ton of work but oh so purdy and FUNCTIONAL!
