The rise of Olaf The JL

Cool that you two can wheel together like that. What happened to Becky's spare tire?

It was riding inside, strapped on the floor.
It was more important to go wheeling than to get the tire carrier mounted.

Maybe it will be on there next time we go, then you can see it in person 😉

Well, Becky finally got Saturday's off.
I was supposed to work on her first Saturday off, but I found a way to work Sunday instead so we could hit the trails.

Didn't get it figured out until late Friday, so not much planning.

We went up to Gold Mountain to start with. That went well, and we had plenty of time so we headed to John Bull to finish the day.

On the way there, she felt a little steering wheel shake. We stopped and checked it out. Play at the TRE from the drag link to the pitman arm!

Only 9,000 miles, and only the last thousand or so on 37s. That is disappointing to say the least. Well, we weren't going to let that ruin the day, so off we went.

I managed to take all the hard lines without getting stuck this time, and we got her and Olaf through without a scratch, except on the skid plates and rock sliders.

Sorry I didn't have more notice so others could join in. Maybe next time.

Here are some pics of the day

Sounds like an awesome day . Looking forward to getting out with both of you again soon , Olaf looking strong

Looks like an awesome day! Can’t wait for this snow to disappear and the mud to dry out so I can get out on the trail! Lol

Thanks. It was a great day

Looks like an awesome area.

It is nice, and surprisingly enough, it was not crowded like it can get.

Looks like every time it looks like spring there, winter let's you know it's not ready to give up.

Well, it's not much of an update, but I finally installed the front license plate on a flip up mount.

Started on the EVO tire carrier, so maybe another update tomorrow.

Added a EVO tire carrier to Olaf. Even had the little woman helping!

It's finally done.I'm mounting the brake light behind the wheel, where it can shine through the gaps. I'm not going through the BS of taking those tiny screws out and hoping to not loose them just to change a tire.
I'm probably going to re drill it a little bit higher, and try to not twist off any of the screws next time.

The light shows, not perfect, but good enough. Without a spacer it would have lined up with the open part of the wheel better, but I will take what I can get.

The tire sits high and tight, lots of clearance. My spacer was barely thick enough, and I had to bore out the holes for the larger studs on the JL, plus find new nuts, but it all came together.

Looks great . Wish I had kept my 3rd backup light but yes having to take it off to do tire rotation would be a deal breaker .

So we finally got the top off of Olaf. Looks great topless 👍👍

The top is hanging in the garage. Thanks to Eddie for the how to on the storage👍👍

Trailer wiring did not get sorted out in time so I had to pull the camper with Digger. He pulled it fine, but developed quite a thirst. Went through 3/4 of a tank in a little over a hundred miles going to Barstow.

When we got there, we stripped the doors off. I was amazed how much easier it was on the JL. These doors are light. Easy one person job to take off or put back on👍👍

We joined the Jackrabbit trail run, and it was a lot of fun. Olaf did great, though he rubbed both the front and rear fender, as well as the bumper on some rocks. Nothing bad, and she wants a new rear bumper anyway.

Sunday night the wind kicked up as well as rain. I was glad to have the cover I got from Dillard to keep Olaf dry. It was for a JK, but fits the JL just fine.
