The long and slow build of "................"

Are there inner and outer seals? Or just outer? I would assume both but it never hurts to ask.

There's just one seal but you're gonna need to remove a pressed in sleeve to remove and replace it. Depending on how many miles you have on your shafts, might be a good time to replace the bearings too. If you don't have a shop press, you will need to have a shop do the work for you.

Yea I don't have a press. I'll have to take it into the dealer.

I appreciate the help Eddie. You always give great information.

Yea it looks like I have a rear axle seal leak.

Again, keep an eye on it. You just had your gears done yesterday. I just had my rear locker done at a shop (requires removing rear axles) and then the locker had a leak so I had to take it back. Both times, my wheels had that same residue on it after I picked up the Jeep. I cleaned it off and kept an eye on it and it disappeared after a couple of days.

Now if you do have a leak there, luckily the rear seals are easy to replace (compared to the front) but require the bearing to be pressed off the shaft. Personally I would bring this up to the shop if it is leaking, they just did the work.

EDIT: Eddie beat me to it.

What WJCO said. Totally forgot that you just had gears installed. To do this, your rear shafts would have needed to be pulled. You could just be seeing residue from that.

An over filled diff would pump gear oil out the breather. If it you really are getting oil out the seal, the seal is bad.

Seems more like a leak now. It wasn't that bad yesterday. I drove 3 hours yesterday with no leak and then when I got home and it sat for a couple of hours I noticed a small drip and spot on rim. Now it seems like it's worse.

You could always pull the wheel and rotor to inspect, but realistically, they should be looking at this for you if it's leaking.

Pulled the axle shaft out and the inner part of the seal looked great. What do you all think about the outer part of the seal as well as the flange. Does it look bent or is it just my eyes.20170621_195604.jpg20170621_195609.jpg20170621_195623.jpg20170621_195713_HDR.jpg20170621_195810.jpg
