The buying of "Bolder"

I personally don't like that alpine system, it sticks out the dash too much for my taste. Also the price tag on that is just silly.
Good luck on whatever you decide.

Haven't seen it in person, but I agree the price is ridiculous. :crazy eyes:

I'm not planning to replace the head unit. Might add a subwoofer at some point.

Definitely worth the upgrade. For sure do it now while cage is out, it's what I did and am thankful for it. Can always do a line out converter down the road to add an amp and sub to stock head unit you feel like you want more. that's what I did anyway

Had some time to get the new speakers installed. I have to say after listening to some of the complaints on the install videos on YouTube, I was expecting a much bigger task then this turned out to be. If it took me an hour I'd be surprised. These things are literally plug and play.

Here are a couple of front and back comparison shots of the OEM (non-Alpine) speakers versus the new Kicker speakers. There really isn't a comparison.

A lot of people have noted the size of the magnet and the weight of the Kicker speakers so I thought I would weigh them and see the difference.

I decided to use Polyfill on the sound bar. I have no way to determine if it actually makes a difference, but for under $4 I figure it wouldn't hurt.

Shot of the Kicker speakers installed. I removed the sound bar to do this, but it could be done with it in place. It was just hot in my garage so I decided to do it inside.

At this point I moved to the garage and knocked out the front 4 speakers. It was hot so I didn't take the time to take pictures. I will say that you absolutely do not have to remove the whole dash to get the speaker boxes out.

In the garage they sound fantastic, but the real test will come tomorrow on my commute when I listen to music with no top at 70+mph.

I doubt this is much, if any, of an upgrade to the Alpine speaker system, but if you have the base model speakers it is probably worth it.

I'll decided later if I want to add a powered sub.

I'm sure they will sound better just by looking at the difference. Hopefully your base model head unit still has the equalizer. I'm guessing you'll need to tweak the base, mids and treble.

I assume you would definitely have to take the sports cage out? I need to do something too, my stock stereo is driving me crazy and I can't decide if I need to add an amp to get more power. I'm curious to see what you think after you drive it. That'll help me make my decision.

I wouldn't try to talk you out of the speakers MTG installed by any means, but I installed these Polks last year https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P0PF9G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Huge difference in quality over the stock speakers. They work great up until you get to 55-60 mph and the damn tires are so friggin' loud that you have to blast the radio to hear. I can't imagine what those mud graps
are like at 70! Forget it if you have your doors off. On long drives I've resorted to using earphones in either my phone or a nice Sony AM/FM radio I have.

Big thanks to Doug at Outback Adventures, Inc for sending me out some new hardware for the trailgater table. I emailed the company asking how I could buy some new hardware to swap the table to the new jeep and he replied within hours and sent it to me for free...on a Saturday even!

Too many complaints about companies and not enough accolades for those that do a great job!

I have the upgraded nav unit so it has the EQ.

Definitely have to take out the sport cage. That is why I did it now before putting mine back in. :yup:

The head unit is the weak spot for sure. I may add an Alpine powered subwoofer (model PWE-S8-WRA) that mounts under the front passenger seat.

Dont turn the sub up much, unless you like a vibrating seat

There are a lot of options out there. I saw a lot of people using Polks as well. I can't remember if those are plug and play or not, but that was one of the reasons I went with the Kicker.
