The Building of Compromise

Working on some diy door scuff plates. Jk was in a previous accident which we knew about but the jabroni that did the work didn't adjust the doors properly. I got that fixed but there is paint damage from rubbing. We decided to use some Herculiner to make some scuff guards and cover up the damage. 3 coats so far and it's drying now.

That is cool, great idea. Yup will have some nice crisp lines once you pull the tape off [emoji108]

Here's some pics with trim reinstalled. It'll be less shiny when it gets dirty and sits in the sun.

Do you pull the tape before it dries?

Sent from my iPad using WAYALIFE mobile app

I waited until it was mostly dry, so just tacky. There were some spots where the lines had some edge strings, but with a pick and razor blade, it cleaned up fine. Rubbery enough to grab on to, but not dry enough where it stuck to the paint yet.

It's very likely we're going to throw some Herculiner down on this thing. So today, we had to clean it out anyways, so we pulled the carpet. We're going to drive it around like this for a week or so and make sure we like it. Being that we did it on the WJ already, we kind of know what to expect.

I've had the carpet out of mine for about a month and a half now. I haven't noticed any difference at all with anything. Bedliner will be the next step :thumb:

Good to hear. I've had it for years on the WJ, I do notice when climbing hills, my right leg next to the trans tunnel gets a little warm. I hear the engine a little louder which is fine with me. Other than that, I love it. Just sprayed it out with water the other day and used a wet/dry shop vac to clean up the sitting water. The wife realized how easy it was and already was leaning towards bedliner on hers anyway, so I imagine it will get done soon.

i have been thinking about doing the same for that reason! when i put the new seats in i pulled the carpet and cleaned everything out. cleanest the jeep has probably been since it was new! then first wheeling trip out last weekend its just the way it was and now i wish i left the carpet out so could just spray it down.

We've been driving it like this for a few days. Neither of us really notice anything concerning. We'll likely do the bedliner this weekend as long as our schedule works out.

I pulled my carpet & drain plugs out two years ago. Haven't looked back since. So nice to take a hose and wash out the inside.
