Texas & People living on the Mexican border.....strange question for you....

The wife and I spent the week of Thanksgiving in Big Bend. Four days of remote site camping and three at the Chisos Lodge.

The park is safe but one can't be foolish. We never camp anywhere near the river. Thefts and break-ins do occur from folks walking over.

We do travel with our firearms but I really feel safer there than in a big city.

The trails are moderate to easy and the entire week was spent in 2-wheel drive but that changes quickly with rain/snow of course.

PM me if you like and I can give you the campsites we used and answer any questions.

Thank you all for your candor, appreciate the honesty. Talked it over with the wife, and we decided to stick to my original plan of soaking in some colorado hot springs, some snowmobiling, then off to capitol reef/goblin valley area. I really do want to visit big bend, so maybe some of you fine gentlemen would be interested in accompanying my wife and myself on a big bend adventure sometime next winter, I'm sure it would be a blast...and it will be multiple guys with ARs. :D

Count us in for that trip if timing works out. We always travel "heavy". :D

My wife and I were in big bend over thanksgiving week too. We stayed in la jitas (Pricey, but safe and highly recommended). We did the state park & the national park. Definitely had firearms on board and within easy reach.
Here's some (admittedly crappy) videos I made - please don't expect WOL video quality :grayno: The national park video appears wavy because of the stabilization feature I used (won't be using that again) so it's kind of annoying to watch, but it does show some of the black gap road which is really the only even remotely challenging part of the national park...The state park video I meant to be more of a guide for people heading out in the northern section of the park because once you get out on those trails - and they are WAY out there - there is absolutely no markers, the maps are of little use and even the rangers are largely unfamiliar with some of the trails. So I was trying shed some light on that one small area of the park

I would love to do Big Bend! We live in San Diego. I just ran across an article about it the other day and became instantly intrigued. If we did it, it would probably be around Apr/May, depending on my partner's deployment schedule. So if you want company, we are game!!

Waiting on the go ahead from The Boss to start work on my ATF Form 1 for my AR10 "muffler."

Form 4 for a "muffler" or a transfer of a registered (already made NFA item) from dealer/individual.

Form 1 for manufacturing a SBR, SBS, "muffler", etc. So you're making your own "muffler"?

Ooops. Thought was 4 but my quick GoogleFoo was off. My welding & machining skills are not up to own mnfn or I would.

Will go on 16" SunDevil matched set, Magpul UBR, NEMO blackend stainless barrel, Troy Battle Rail. Keep fighting myself as to what optic, really want an FFP style with a Horus style reticle.

Nice. I have a blackout sbr with eotech. What little I have shot it's great. I'm not one for distance shooting so I stick to around 100 yards with my guns.

In Houston I think I'd roll in an uparmored JK! Here in SW I have places with clear line of sight at times for miles or as short as only 20yds.
