Subwoofer setup

How easy is the Kicker to wire up? My jku didnt come with a sub and I have been thinking of a few spots to mount something small.

I actually had Bestbuy install it for me, but looking at the instructions there's only two wires hook up. The power wire which they tapped into the cigarette outlet and one the goes to the head unit.

Hmm okay maybe Ill just order one and figure it out. I want to keep the stock headunit for a while yet so Im sure it cant be too hard.
 
My sub set up. The box isn't to specs but sounds great still, allows for a good amount of remaining space and is pretty unique swinging open with the gate.

My set up is a bit different from what your looking at exactly but I kept my 430N head unit and added an amp along with replacing all the speakers, I haven't added a sub yet, simple with my set up, but all you need is an adapter and an inline converter to make everything wire up correctly to the head unit. For the life of me I cant remember everything that I used to wire it all up (was 2 years ago) but i have to pull my dash apart this weekend anyway and ill look at what all the parts were to make it work and let you know.
 
Anybody here running a JL W3? I've saw quite a few people have good luck with these in the stock enclosure. Think it takes some minor modifications in the inside to clear without a spacer ring. Nothing too crazy, though.

I'm thinking about selling my 430N to go to the new AVIC-8200 and upgrading all my speakers. Would run this off a 5 channel JL amp.

Can you fit a w3 in there? Or are you referring to a tw3

The w3s are badass it would obviously sound a lot better in a 3/4 inch MDF box but it'd be worth a try

People are using the W3v3. The enclosure can be modified to fit anything under 5" depth, as I understand it. What exactly that entails, is something I guess I'm going to learn. While a custom enclosure might end up making it's way in my Jeep, I'm going to try my best to avoid that. If it sounds horrible with the typical dynomat approach, I might attempt "gutting" the enclosure and glassing the inside.

EDIT: Also, the JL recommends an enclosure volume of .3 cubic feet for the W3, which is about what the inside of the factory enclosure is.

That would be awesome. If you do pull the trigger on that show us how it works/sounds I have a buddy that would like to do the same. Also what year is yours again?

This is it mounted under the passenger seat between the seat rails. I used a mounting bracket that a guy makes and sells on eBay, it works out really nice. View attachment 192012View attachment 192013

That is really cool man! In my last mustang I was running the mach 1000 system that I upgraded. 6 amps and two 12s. Now my basic JKU sport without a sub is killing me. Seriously I have to get off this site. I haven't finished saving for the winch fund and am already thinking about starting another one for a sub. This will be a future mod for sure.
 
I installed the AVIC 8100 last year and there are features I prefer on my old 430N as far as simplicity of use goes. I've even thought about going back to stock but the sound output is quite nice.

I followed someone else's advice on amp mounting and installed one under passenger seat using AL plate and a separate amp on the firewall to left of clutch pedal for the front/overhead speakers. Single 10". All the bass you need plus good overall sound with the top /doors off.
 
Decided to order the small kicker, will be able to post about it this weekend. Will be tying it into the stock headunit.
 
Does your Jeep have the front seat the lifts up when you fold it forward? I have a 2015 JK 2-door and the front seat lifts up off the rail slightly in order to give more room for someone to get into the back.

Seeing as he has a 4 door, the seat will not flip up. I can say tho from running an arb twin in my old 2 door, you could still put a sub there depending on how you mount the bracket for the sub. Like if you make it work with the base rails, it wont lift up with the seat and you will be fine, just be carefull.
