I've rebuilt engines before but never my own and never have i messed with one in the vehicle other than change plugs and oil.

Would that start to show itself when the fan engages though?

I was referring to the fan mtr. Having chuck just to be clear. You mentioned that it happens with the fan running. If you grab the fan push it in and lift up down left right then pull out and do the same thing there shouldn't be any movement .
