Speedy Cracker the 392

I had some time to spend with the 392 today. I pulled it out of the garage and parked it next to F-Cracker. While the Gladiator is on 35’s with no lift the 392 is taller even sitting on 33’s.

One of the cool features of the JL is the cargo rail. It comes with six adjustable tie down anchor points. These can be stored in the tailgate of the JL when not in use.

They slide in from the left side.

Pushing the center button allows them to slide free on the track.

The silver loop is spring loaded and allows you to use bungee straps and such.

The tie downs slide into the track from this wide point.

By pushing the button you can adjust the anchor point and then lock it into place.

The anchor points seem relatively robust, although I’m sure you could break them if you utilized a ratchet strap and over torqued it.

For light duty work like securing this box it definitely does the trick. It will be interesting to see how well it secures something heavier like a fridge/freezer.

I ordered the half-door kit with this Jeep. I love half-doors and was really happy it was an option. My garage is short on space with 2-Jeeps and all my assorted junk.

I looked at different methods to store them to include carts and decided to go with a hinge mount system. This system uses 6-lag bolts to secure the plate to wall studs spaced 16-inches center to center. The plate allows you to use the existing door hinge rods.

The doors and uppers before I unboxed them.

I cleared a space along the only wall free of crap.

Instead of bolting the mounting plates directly to the studs I used some 8-foot 2X4’s to spread out the weight. These are resting on the ground so very little weight is hanging on the wall.

At first I was going to stack the doors two on top of two, however I think this will be much easier to take down and mount up. Especially for my wife.

Next weekend I am going to swap doors and run the halfs for the fall. 👍🏻🇺🇸👍🏻

Somebody likes red…

im going to do something similar to hang the doors…when I stop traveling and get a chance…

Damn, now I wish I had opted for those rails - nice!

also, love the side by side comparison shots. Definitely feel like the 392 sits higher but now I can see it really is. 👍🏻

Picked up the 392 today.

There is a pretty regimented break in procedure and being a stickler for this type of thing we drove it around locally on some smaller roads to get the 100 miles on it so we could drive back to VA on the highway tomorrow.

As Eddie demonstrated in his video the half doors and such take up a huge amount of room. Luckily we traveled out light and only have two small bags. 😳

The magic! I can’t help but smile when I push the accelerator! The ‘Redneck Button’ makes it even better!! 👍🏻🇺🇸👍🏻

My in-laws asked me what kind of mileage I got. My reply was: “I don’t even care!” 😂🤣
Congrats ! Happy to see another person who got one - I remember seeing 1 on the dealer lot when i bought my gladiator- but it was instantly bought (even with a $25k markup). I love the accessory drive setup, and what they did with the intake. Did you end up having to pay a markup on this one ?

Was also wondering if you could turn off MDS? Thats my only dislike with the 392 - known many people who had issues with AFM/DOD GM v8's (and supposedly the Hemi's with MDS are not immune to this).

No markup. I ordered it from a dealer that I have a good relationship with.

When the transmission is in manual mode and I use the paddle shifters the MDS seems to be disabled. I will look into this further and report my findings.

The 392 is fun to drive!

Today we went on a ’Farm Tour’ held by our county. Basically a bunch of farms, ranches and related business sponsor an event where you drive to the different participants locations and tour and taste what they offer. Lots of business partner up so if you go to the Lavender Farm a local brewery is there with their lavender beer. If you go to the bee farm there is wine, cider and a blacksmith demonstration. Its a great time, you drive around rural Virginia and see the business that are responsible for producing your food, beverages and other items.

When my wife planned the route she made it as ‘efficient’ as possible so we drove the least amount of miles required. When she informed me of her route I looked at her and replied: “No, I want to take the longest route possible.” Driving the 392 is so much fun that I wanted to spend as much time driving as possible. The throttle response, the sound, the acceleration, the rumble is so enjoyable I could drive it all day. Make no mistake, it does not handle like a sports car or even a muscle car. There is no refinement about it. It’s raw and unrefined power. It reminds me of the 1978 CJ-5 I had with the built 401 AMC motor. The difference is the 392 has air conditioning, satellite radio, and is way more comfortable than the 401 powered CJ-5, however the 392 is still raw and unrefined power.

If you are thinking of getting one I do not think you will be disappointed.

LOL - longer drive is what I was thinking you’d need too 😎

sounds like a great trip

I like that farm tour idea/concept. Sounds like a fun time.

It’s a great time.

The beer, wine, booze, and food tastings alone are worth it.

Also most of the owners of the farms and ranches will talk in depth on what it takes to run their facility. A lot of work goes into what they do. I’m glad I am not a farmer or rancher, that shit is thankless. Lots of work and about a million things to go wrong. A huge amount of regulations and the weather always has a say in your success.

The Farm Tour is the best. Here’s some of the featured farms. Our county or the neighboring county has bison, wagu beef, sheep, dairy, hogs, cider, beer, and moonshine producers. Grass fed and grass finished meats, full pastured pork, and free range chickens.
