The problem Bob is that should be a local or state function. If a few folks want to compile all the numbers from the states data then great. What is not needed is a big bloated feral agency to count cows. Stop being obtuse.

There is no requirement for any party to have a primary election to choose a candidate for president. Any party can simply nominate whom ever they want and that’s what most parties do.

Both the Dems and the Reps have "rules", in those "rules" lie the foundation for the primaries and the conventions.
In the case of the Dems this year, by their own "rules" they should have had an open convention when Biden withdrew. Technically, by their "rules", the delegates were bound to Biden for the first vote. There was nothing done to change any of this and any delegate could have sued the DNC for not following the established "rules". The fact no one did just shows the whole thing was a set up. If I was still voting Left, I would have been irate with the party.

They may both be lying sacks of shit, but they both do have established "rules" for the entire procedure. No, the government can't make any laws to affect how they decide on a candidate, but the organizations can and do.
