Damn that looks fun.

It is, you are missing out on the fun.

Here are some night shots, on the way back down to Yucca Valley

The trees look so cool in the headlights.

I did have to keep stopping to clear the snow from the lights, at least up high where it was deep.

Wish I could join you. No black friday fun for me.

I posted some pics in the snow thread, but pics don't do justice to the run.

I have a few short videos from my phone shooting out the windshield.

You can see some of what we faced.
No video in the worst of it, as we were busy just getting going. We were stuck more times than you can count, with one notable time we were going downhill, and had to back out as the narrow shelf road was completely drifted over, with a 300'+ drop on the edge.
Must digging and use of my imitation Mattracks. Wish one of us had a rear winch.

We left Big Bear the same way we went, as all roads in and out were still closed.

I wish I would have videoed the first hill leaving. The drifts we broke on the way down we're halfway up the side windows, and it looked downright scary in the dark.

First video here, there are 5 total.

Looks like a pretty good snowfall for the 1st storm of the year. What elevation did the snow start? Was it all the way down to rimrock?

It was all the way down to Yucca Valley, though not much there.

Pioneer Town had a few inches, and by the last house on Burns Canyon it was already nearly a foot deep.

I like chains when you can dig down and get to the hard stuff, but sometimes when it's too deep they aren't quite as good.

My other concern is clearance. I need to try them out in the dry and see how much room there is. No need to year things up, any more than I already do.

I should have aired down some more, but wanted to still be roadworthy without airing up when we got a good road. I was at about 10 or 11 psi.

I will add that other than the deep drifts, I had no problem moving along. It was the hood high and deeper drifts that were the problem.

I'm thinking maybe meet in Highland, then head up through Running Springs, then start at Crab Flats and see what's passable, working towards Big Bear.

It rained, so conditions will be much different than last time I went

Snow run was a bust.

The rain melted damn near all the snow. Last weekend, 4'. This weekend, hard pressed to find 4"
