I would only shoot with it at night and not deer. But for finding a deer after it's shot and run off if you can't with the naked eye, it would be a good option.

A little late to the party but have been watching. You definitely may have just cost me some money, I’ve been wanting a thermal and finally have some land to use it on. Here’s a few of my 300 BLK variations. Very quite suppressed and they’ve taken a few coyotes and rock chucks over the years. The 5.5’’ version will make you deaf without ears even suppressed.

Anything you would change/not change? Also as far as your land, what distance do you think you'll be shooting at most of the time?

I have 20 acres but will probably only shoot 50 to 75 yards top, especially sub sonic. I accidentally put some subs in the 16” shooting around 175 and you can’t believe the bullet drop. As far as any changes I think overlander hit it. The 5.5 is just way too damn short. I hardly ever use it. The idea was to be a trunk gun but I think by the time I put my double hearing pro on it would be too late to do anything that was needed.

So the 25-256 i got has a 3.5 lens and is pretty strong for 30 yards and under. It narrows the view. Just something to keep in mind. A review video talked about that before I purchased but I didn't realize how it actually looked until purchase. It's huntable for short distances, but just something to keep in mind. Might be wise to look through some at a gun shop.
 
Oh, and if you're thinking of the agm rattler, v2 over v1. You can research it but way more user friendly battery system compared to their first models.
 
Thanks for the info! I haven’t decided on any model but your purchase definitely got me thinking again. We have some chickens a ways out and my neighbor lost some from Fox and or coyotes. I think now would be a good time to get ready aka excuse to explain to the wife.

It looks like this design can easily be turned on its side so it could be rolled into protective storage when not in use.
 
Any of you guys use one of these doohickeys? There's a ton online with various prices but all pretty affordable. Front grip with a bipod that pops out. Any cheap ones to stay away from?

I was going to suggest the Magpul Bipod... Been happy with mine... But I just realized that acts like a forward grip too. Honestly I'd would get a Grip you like... then have a separate Bipod set up with a quick disconnect.

This is for my new AR. The bipod on my AK works, but it's cheap and loosens over time. I looked into the bipods with a quick disconnect. Not a bad idea.

I'll be starting this thing shooting from a deer stand so I have a metal rail to rest on but for future use in a field or ground blind, I'm thinking a taller separate bipod may not be a bad idea.

Its a good budget option without going Arca Rail or some high dollar Bipod... I mounted a 4" Pic Rail section to the M-Lock... (which is cool for setting on shit when the bipod isn't there) I bought the Picatinny Version Magpul Bipod... then added a UTG Pic to Pic QD mount. Gets the job done.
