LaRue, Noveske, BCM, WOA, JP, LWRC are just a few very good quality firearms mfg's

Stick to a 5.56/.223. With the proper barrel and quality ammo you can shove a round up a fleas ass at +500yds with a lil ol .22 caliber projectile.

I can't justify the price for those LaRues, some guys can. If your life depends on that rifle on a daily basis then hell yes it's justified.

If it were me I'd buy a Nice Bravo Company and do some mods to it to make it how you like it. Spend the extra $$$$ on ammo. Believe it or not AR's are very much like jeeps. They have a HUGE aftermarket following, you can make it any size, color and shape you want to make it yours. But in the end it's still an Ar15... Jeep. :)

Cant go wrong with a 308... I don't even touch my 223's when I have 308s to feed my Scar 17

I've shot a friends 7.62 PredatOBR several times and love it. In 5.56 I'm a fan of some others but as far as 308 caliber ARs goes Larue is supposed to be about the pinnacle.

Are you sure you want 7.62 vs something else? What are your main intended uses for it? Do you want to build yourself or buy whole?

I've since lowered my price range from the LaRue, but yeah I still want a 7.62. I know it's more expensive to shoot than .223, but I want the extra power. Realistic use will be occasional pleasure shooting and maybe some pig hunting. "Intended" use is the ability to take down most anything on 2 or 4 legs (either at close range or a reasonable distance), if the world becomes a much less stable place. So, in reality, it's just an expensive want...not a need.

I am going to buy whole, and when I finally get something it will likely be a POF or Sig 716.

Take a look at the Mega products. Solid and reliable for reasonable prices.

My advice is to go with a 6.8 SPC. The total weight of the AR-10 platforms is unrealistic when on foot for a long time compared to the AR-15 platform that you can build the 6.8 in. IMO it's a solid caliber for anything from 0 to 500 yds.

LaRue and several other make great rifles, but most people can't really shoot any caliber with "high accuracy" out to 500 yds even with the best weapons money can buy. At the end of the day it comes down to the shooter. I hate seeing people waste a ton of money on built up rifles such as a LaRue and not shooting any better than they would with a Rock River. Not saying you couldn't, but I see it all the time.

What about 300 blackout? I have been looking into this but don't know a lot yet.

300 blackout is great short range round, especially suppressed. Self defense wise I wouldn't rely on it for more than 100 yds. I've always compared it to something like a 30-30. Not a bad round, but there's a lot better out there.

I was actually looking at starting a 6.8 build here in the near future. Still researching it, but I like the versatility of it over going with the 7.62 AR-10.

Yeah, honestly if ammo for the 6.8 was as cheap as the 5.56 it would probably be a lot more popular than it is. I was going to build an SPR 5.56 when I ended up going with this caliber. I used the Mega maten upper and a Wilson Combat 18" SS barrel for that build.

The ammo cost has been my only hesitation, but the cost difference of building a 6.8 over a 7.62, it's just huge!

It is a Troy 2 point sling and you can get them many places online. This one happened to be on sale on amazon.com for $32.
