Selecting a Mig welder.

Thanks guys. I was kind of hesitant about HF, anyway. I only have 110 at home, but I could have a 220 outlet put in, but I'd probably do most of it at my Dad's until I get a place with a shop or larger garage, and he has 220 available. I may pinch pennies & buy the Hobart. I've got taxes coming up, & I'll be paying, I'm sure! [emoji30]

Everything I've done in the last few years is 110v flux core. Works for Jeep stuff IMO. You go much over .250 steel, and you might want something in 220v.

I would recommend the Hobart 140 then. It can be used on 110 and will weld 1/4" - probably all you'll ever need.

Have you checked out the Lincoln Weld Paks they seem pretty good I wanted to get the 180 it's a 220v. I think the 120 or 140 are 110v.

Eddie, do you know if there is a new equivalent from Hobart or a different manufacture?
I wasn't aware they made cordless welders, that would be extremely handy.
I couldn't seem to turn up much on Google.

Unfortunately, there isn't and it really sucks. My Trek 180 wasn't cheap but man has it ever been crazy useful to have. I've used it a TON and love how it's basically a portable mig with it's own power and that you can even hook gas up to. I have had a Premier Ready Welder II and it's probably the next best thing. The only bummer thing about it is that you do need 2 batteries to make it work.

No doubt! I seem to be very unlucky with ripping off mounts/breaking track bars.
One of those would have saved me a couple of trail macgyvers lol
 
Holy hell, $2875??? :shock:

And here I thought my Trek 180 was expensive. That Dewalt 140 looks pretty nice though.

Here was the other backpack one. I was thinking it was overseas and it's not, so maybe there's even another one I found awhile back. I gave up looking because they were so expensive. This one utilizes the ReadyWelder spool gun and is close to 3k as well, that's ridiculous.

Premier Power Welder does have an onboard version with a bigger alternator, it's about 2k IIRC.

I have the Lincoln 210mp, it is a dual voltage, inverter style welder. Mig/stick/Tig all in one. Nice electronic display, 210 amps.

Miller multimatic 200 is a super nice welder. 110, 220, you can mig with a paintball co2 can. They are spendy but super nice. Otherwise the hobarts are nice from what I hear.

Not sure why nobody stick welds, can get a nice 220 tombstone for el cheapo and weld whatever you want once you get the skill.
