Recent Shooting and Discussion

I’ve stayed out of this because I have my opinions but they are mine to keep. I don’t need to let anyone know where I stand. Some of you that internet “know me” probably can guess where I fall. Mass shootings and murder, no matter how, is a no go to me, as an example.

Agreed. I have about 24 years of law enforcement experience. I’ve come very close on several occasions of having to, but thankfully the shithead decided to listen. If I had to I would, just as I would to protect my family or other innocent life.

Carry on with the debate. I’ve seen many good points [emoji1303] and a lot of FB/Twitter level trolling too. [emoji849]

Not really the crying for more guns guy but yes I shoot a lot. It is a perishable skill. Monthly group scenario training including medical. Swat t tourniquet and combat dressing with clotting agent in my IFAK. I also compete in Action Pistol and 3-gun competitions. You bring up a great point. So many people concealed and open carry but few put in the range time. I hope I never have to find out if I've done enough.

I missed the original from HighwayTrout, but good for you! All three of my personal vehicles have an IFAK with tourniquets, (2 per vehicle). As cheesy as it sounds, my family and I have a couple of code word sets. One to let them know to get away/call 911 and one to let them know (if possible) I am going to engage someone/take cover. My wife and oldest daughter are well trained in calling in a shooting that involves me. My overall appearance/description, location, number of suspects and descriptions and where they are right then.

It’s kinda sad it’s come to this. I just read the fucktards manifesto from El Paso today. Its strangely articulate but definitely disturbing. So damn pointless.

I shoot weekly. I’m fortunate enough to have gun club less than 5 min from my house. Plus I roll my own ammo. I don’t carry a gun with the hopes of “rising to the occasion “. In fact, I hope that the only time I have to pull my gun is when I get back home at the end of the day. As the saying goes, I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I’m torn on the more guns debate, aside from personally carrying. Rounds vary from month to month, but was a Certified EMT a few year ago. I hope I never have to draw/pull the trigger, and if I do I know it will weigh on me for the rest of my life.

So fucking right. I’m guilty of not spending enough time at the range over the last few years, but I still carry and only because I know for a fact I’m capable. Still need to sharpen the skills though.

A couple of years ago we had a mass shooting close by in Sutherland Springs. So close, the shooter actually ended up living less than a mile from my house. Chilling to say the least. Some good ol’ boy local ended up killing the guy with his rifle. No doubt that guy was proficient with his weapon and oddly enough, comfortable with shooting a human being that was a threat. So not only do you have to be proficient, you have to be mentally capable of aiming a weapon at someone and pulling the trigger. Then there’s the aftermath and how you handle that. Some people handle it like nothing happened, some fall completely apart. Either way your life will never be the same and when you start carrying for protection, you damn well better take all those factors into consideration.

I haven't read it and probably won't. What concerns me is the political spin everything seems to get. Democrats taking every opportunity to blame racist extremists actions on Trump when in reality they are creating more racial tension in the name of equality than anything Trump is doing. Selective reporting by the media, glorifying defiance of law enforcement in social media. It's really getting out of control. I don't like a lot of things about Trump but the alternatives really seem much worse.

Yeah. [emoji58] Also, I’m with you re: Dems vs Repubs. They are almost all worthless and looking for reelection not to legislate.

I think Bubba mentioned term limits and maybe a couple others did too. I can agree to that. Why? The career politicians, regardless of party, just push shit down the road if it doesn’t look good to them and their chance to stay in power.

Article 5 Convention of States is probably our only chance at term limits for The House, Senate and Supreme Court.

No shit. This is where I'm at. I lean a little more conservative but I've met stupid Republicans and Democrats and I've met smart Republicans and Democrats. I'm more than happy to listen to either group that use their brains rather than just camp in the trendy party but don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
 
The last few posts just go to show that the 2 party system is a fucking joke. I think we can all agree that we're Americans and we love America. That needs to be the foundation. All the other shit just divides us. Exclude the words Republicans and Democrats. We're not going to agree on everything, but we love freedom and love our country. Am I wrong?

I totally agree that our “representatives” in Washington are doing us all a disservice. Some because of their actions. Some because of their inactions or extremist views.

The middle is unrecognizable these days.

I know what you mean. I have a coworker who had his ccw for a year. Thank god he never recerted to keep it. He absolutely did not need to have one. He was a hot head who seemed to thrive on the "power" he had. I was really thinking he was going to get himself into some shit.

Additionally, the talk about arming teachers or other people in situations like that should be tossed out the window. Not many, my wife included, want that on their plate as well. As you mentioned not only do you need to keep you skills sharp but teachers hardly got into their profession because they failed the police academy. They probably never had that desire and would not possess the mental toughness to engage a shooter, myself included. I can go fight the craziest of fires and deal with blood and guts not bat an eye but the thought of fulfilling the responsibility of a cop scares the shit out of me. No thanks. Thanks to those that are out there serving and protecting all of us. I don't envy you one bit.

Agreed. The liberal and conservative way of thinking need to go away and apply some common sense thought processes. As WJCO said I do lean to the conservative side of things but there are some ideas from "the other side" I can agree with too. It's time to blur the line and so what's best for the people, not just what will help with relection. Realistically take away the pay checks and do it voluntarily.

Back to the gun discussion, one thing that has been briefly touched upon are what about the nearly 400 million guns already in the hands of US citizens? What gun reform will address that? Sure laws can make it tougher to buy new ones but as sharkey mentioned private party sales or theft or illegal possession most likely wouldn't be terribly affected by these. I seriously doubt a federal law requiring owners to turn in specific guns would make that happen. Yes something needs to be done and I truly feel it's people reform. Social media, news media, sense of entitlement, lack of compassion and appreciation for human life is more of the issue. The gun is the "tool" of choice used by people to inflict the pain they want to cause because it's most effective. If I was a crazy planning on dying or going down in a blaze of glory I seriously doubt I'd care if everyone in the area was potentially armed. Falling back of what highway trout said about civilians being able to engage. Now B&E or robbery yeah if I knew someone was potentially armed I'm not going into that house or going to try and take their wallet. OK I am reading this and think I'm beginning to sound like the loony..haha. These problems are all frustating as hell and it would be so much easier if a solution was just that, easy.
