Rear shocks coming unseated

No it doesn't. Rockstars are meant to increase ground clearance. The increase in shock travel is only a benefit if you can actually make use of it. There's nothing wrong with limiting straps, especially if he has no other reason to add more lift.

I understand your point and don't disagree, but I'd think most would want the increased droop as well.

My main concern in this case is that his shocks aren't too long as shock damage due to bottoming them out is way more expensive than swapping springs or adding spacers.

Ok, so what is the right way to measure exactly what I need to do here. I'm not against changing out the coils and I'm not against the limiting straps either. I just want it done right. I'm already running the 4" bump stops in the rear.

OK when I picked up my shocks from off road EVO I spoke to Mel about installing Rockstars. He said before I install them I need to install the shocks and pull the coils. Then needed to cycle my axle to full bump and measure the amount of shock shaft I have left. If I had 1+" then go ahead and install them. If not, to not install the rockstars as I'd have to add bump and loose up travel or I'd have to by shorter shocks. This will let you know if your shocks are too long. As for the coils you can do the same and let the axle droop all the way to full extension. See how far the coils are coming unseated. Spacers may solve the problem it's less than a 1/4", so will longer coils. If you want limitimg straps I'd assume you'd use a Jack to lift the axle into a position when the coils aren't unseating and measure between the point where the straps will attach. I have no experience with limiting straps so hopefully someone can chime in.

“Buy shorter shocks...”. Not exactly a practical option if you’ve already sunk the dough into a set of Kings.

So in other words, going to Rockstars forces you to either raise your lift height (via spacers or taller springs) or switch to shorter shocks? I’m not seeing the appeal ....

Increased ground clearance and you get to spend even more money

Personally, I was going to raise it anyway because of my bump stop issue. I just waited to install the Rockstars to see if what I had planned would be enough or if I'd have to do something with my shocks as well. If I didn't do the Rockstars I would've needed longer shocks.

In other words, it's all in the planning. The Rockstars were a part of my build plan, not an afterthought. If someone were adding them later, it could cause expensive problems such as King shocks that are too long without adding more lift. 😎

You should see my rear LCA mount. Looks like a peeled back soup can lid. I was planning on adding rock stars and buying new shocks anyway. The deal in the Kings was too good to pass up. They are actually the same length as my 5100's. If I can keep my 3" bumps with 4" plush rides, that is what I plan on doing. If not I'll add a puck which I may need to anyway when I go to 37's.

I am thinking I will need to add a set of Rock stars as well.
My mounts are hammered, and I'm not sure how much more they will take.

It didn't help that the lower shock bolt was installed backwards. I need new bolts now as well when I put my shocks on tonight.

This thread is helpful to sort out issues in advance.

Rockstars won't help you with damaging the remote reservoir though. 🤣

One of the reasons I went with the Rockstars when I did the LA kit - the mounts on my D60 were so flared out it was crazy. After installation of that kit was when I found my coils unseating,. As it always seems to be with these damn things, one thing led to another and I ended up with the Kings and longer springs.

In going over all of this shit with Drew out at ORE, he told me his setup is what you listed above and he has no unseating issues with his coils.

Yeah I ended up with a lot of things I did not need but the deal was too good..haha. If I can keep my 3" springs without them unseating that's what I'll do. I just need to test them. Although the 4" springs with the same bumps would give me a little more travel before bottoming out.
