IMO pretty limited info to state "At impossible speeds. At impossible altitudes. "
speed plays no role in a connection but make for a nice dramatic statement, altitude maybe but I recall the late night cb radio calls with people may states away.
terrain, weather, #of towers, satellite locations would help paint a better picture.

Well the earth is flat because I remember as a Merchant Marine in the Gulf of America, couple hundred miles off shore, early 80’s, being able to listen to WLS out of Chicago. Curved earf would’ve launched those signals right in to outer space.
