That too is an option. The same company that I planned to use for the front long arm kit also makes a coil conversion kit for the XJ rear, which is close to the same, but the MJ wheel base is longer than the XJ. I spoke to the guys there briefly about it and they weren't too sure about doing it on an MJ as their kit shares the same control arm mounts as the front and would need really long arms for the rear unless other arrangements were made such as a separate mounting point for the rear arms. I'm certain it could be done and it could make my axle plans that much easier. Maybe.
 
Well Lee- in reality, I would just keep the leafs in the rear- you should be able to get a couple leaf springs easily- and could even have some made.

In a perfect world- I would run Coilovers and some sweet custom long arms- but how much money do you really want to spend on Amanda?
 
Decided to make a feeble effort to prevent more rusting to the MJ's roof until I can get started on the bodywork. I gotta get the bodywork going soon. My dad told me tonight he was going to start sanding it down the other day...With a freaking BELT SANDER!! I'm fixing to get a speeding ticket getting him to an old folks home.
 
Getting a little closer to starting the restoration/build process. The steering column has had a large person using it to hoist themselves in and out and it has seen better days. So rather than trying to rebuild it I instead sourced a used one from Davey's Jeeps that only has 40k miles on it. This morning I was in the right place at the right time on my local parts exchange FB page and now have an AX15 (4WD version) lined up from an 86' Wrangler that had a bad day. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1425014304.026085.jpg. I'll be taking a road trip with Mumbo in a couple weeks to SOCAL to pick up a JK rear D44 for the MJ. Coupled with either a JK front D30 or D44, it should be a decent setup for the 4:88 gear ratio and 35" tires I have planned. I'll be ordering a Clayton 6.5" Long arm kit for the front with just a slightly longer set of shackles for the rear in the next few weeks and it'll be time for the little MJ's transformation to begin.
 
Finally got to dive into the MJ build this weekend. Started off with a good ol tuneup. By the looks of the rotor and plugs, it's a wonder the thing ran at all. The crank case vent tube needed to be replaced as well and with a trip to the parts store, I made quick work of it.
