Power Steering Hot Warning?

I just got the most unusual warning on my 392 EVIC and it kicked on just as I was about to pass on a 2 lane highway. As soon as I stepped on the gas, I heard a 'ding' and saw the following message along with what looked like a red steering wheel with an exclamation mark above the temp guage.

"Power Steering System Hot Performance May Be Limited"

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a pic of the message it being that I was driving and it went away after a few moments. The red steering wheel with exclamation mark stayed around longer but it eventually went away too. I should note that I can't say that I felt any difference in steering when this occurred.

Any of you ever get this message before?

I honestly couldn't tell you if I did. The warnings go away so fast I never have time to take my eyes off the road to read them before they disappear. I could be driving a ticking time bomb right now and not know it.

Yes like the time that Jeep told me after the fact that there were "throttle control" issues after I completed the 3000ft winding grade up from Wilhoit to Prescott (and earlier down Banner Grade near San Diego), or it told me that there were problems with the start/stop system which might cause my engine to die in the middle of nowhere.

Luckily, I have not seen such phantoms always reported via the Uconnect app or email rather than an indication on the dash) for a few years. It may be that they are due to firmware bugs that Jeep has fixed (or now ignore).

Weird to get that, especially while daily driving and not out in the rocks. Have to assume it was a random fault. I’ve only heard of this with guys running the apex boost and for obvious reasons.

But yes, time to ditch the electric pump and go PSC 🤣

I have received that same warning a few times and one other while wheeling. I can’t remember the exact wording of the other but i think it was more dire. Like I had to shut the Jeep off and let it cool down before proceeding.

I frequently get that while offroad in mine. Ive been told its related to the electric pump getting hot and dialing down its performance. When this happens on the trail I do notice steering is slightly less responsive but it doesnt cause any other issues.

I have a PSC kit arriving on Monday so I hope to never see this light again :ROFLMAO:

Which PSC kit are you getting? I see they also offer just a power steering cooler kit for JL's, thinking about that or the APEX cooler. Not going to be running anything larger than the 37" KO2 D's that I now have so just a cooler should do the trick for me.
While I have not seen this issue yet on my 2.0 JLR-X (not many miles yet on harder trails) I have seen it a couple times on my 3.6 JLR while slow walking some of the AZ rock-garden trails...

I do not think the issue with the factory light is the fluid getting hot. I think it is the pump itself. I have no doubt that a cooler could help but I dont think it would help things much.

That said I went with the PSC electric kit. The sad part is that it arrived yesterday but it was the mechanical kit. So the gearbox and pump are incorrect. Getting it corrected but it delays be until mid December.

I just had the same type of issue happen to my 2021 392 this week. However, mine only happens first thing in the morning when I was trying to get to work. Once I return to the house all pi$$ed off, it doesn't happen if I leave again for lunch. It starts by flickering on and off a few times, before becoming constant about a half mile through the neighborhood. I am thinking a short someplace, but after two days of this I have yet to find anything wrong.

I had that happen several times but only on the trail during hard maneuvering. I went with the Apex kit for my 2.0 and the PSC Hydro-Assist. Problem solved!
