Mike, I moved your thread here to this existing one. Also keep in mind, the axle moves up and rearward in an arc, it does not move straight up. So you may be able to trim less than you think you need to for the tire to clear.
FYI, I trimmed the shit out of the WJ with a sawzall and cutoff wheel and sealed everything in FlexSeal from a spray can. It's been fine.
