Painting my tailgate

My tailgate is starting to rust in a few spot and I'm thinking about re painting it with a black Bed Liner. Any thoughts or tips for me before I go into this project?

If you've done it before I'd love to see the results.

Bryce planning on doing the interior of my tailgate. I've been experimenting with a couple different products but haven't landed on one ...which one were you thinking of using?
