Openable skylights in Freedom Panels

This is a hobby project, I not selling anything in the video. I have posted DIY instructions for most of the mods in the video, but since they're on another forum and due to the rules of this forum I can't post links to that info here. Since this is a show and tell area, I thought it would be appropriate to show and tell a little bit. Isn't "check out what I have made" the definition of "show and tell"? If I've got that wrong and my post is not appropriate, I apologize and I ask the moderators to delete this post or delete this entire thread.

Im a little curious of the motive myself. You have some cool ideas, but seems like you don't really show a lot on this forum other than the hardtop mods. If I recall, there was even an article about you in TruckYeah that said you were developing this concept to be licensed to other companies for production. Maybe that was someone else.

Well you are correct in that show and tell is definitely a "look what I did" however your motives are questionable. Again back to my question, aren't you into R&D or something of that nature? I find it hard to believe your hobby is to acquire a bunch of hardtops, modify them and then post up here and other places just for "fun." I'll flat out say it. It appears you are looking for someone to buy your ideas and this is your method of advertising.

Yes there was an article about my JK Safari Cab hardtop project. I had nothing to do with the article and they never talked to me about it. As a result, they got a number of things wrong, and specifically to the point made I did not develop the modular hardtop concept to be licensed.

I designed and built my JK Safari Cab because it's what I want for my Jeep - I wanted more features and capabilities in my Jeep's hardtop than are available commercially, so I designed and built exactly what I wanted. During the course of the project several companies contacted me about licensing the design and I did have conversations with all of them but I turned them all down. Licensing the design would turn my hobby into work - it would be a lot of work for me to help a company get the design into production and I'm not interested in that.

I'm doing the factory hardtop modular conversion project because for me it's an interesting design and construction challenge and I want to see what would be possible for a DIYer to accomplish with a factory hardtop. I can't even use it myself because the hardtop is a 2dr and I have a JKU. It just happened that I was able to pick up the 2dr hardtop for almost nothing, so it was a great start to experiment with. I've given the design and construction techniques away for free - I've put step-by-step instructions showing how to do the modular conversion online so any DIYer who wants to can do his own version. Or any company can pick up those instructions or free and go into business modifying hardtops. If my motive were to sell the modular design it wouldn't make sense for me to post detailed step-by-step instructions online, would it?

What is my motivation for doing "show and tell" posts on a project like this? I believe in group design, so I post to get other people's thoughts (and criticisms) of what I've designed. Often someone will say something that I never thought of about one of my designs and that will send me down a whole new path. Example: when I was building my JK Safari Cab, I wrote about the openable vent windows I was planning to build into the sides. Someone said I ought to make them powered - that thought hadn't occurred to me, but it was a great idea so I implemented it. It's now one of my favorite features of the hardtop, and I wouldn't have done it if someone hadn't suggested it.
