OK stupid question on wheels

I currently own ATX Slab Beadlock wheels. Unfortunately I had one of my wheels damaged due to vandalism. the specs on them are as follows:

Brand: ATX Wheels
Backspacing: 3.5in
Bolt Pattern: 5x5
Color: Satin Black w/Silver Lip
Material: Aluminum
Offset: -38mm
Qty: 1
Size: 17x9

As we all know they have been discontinued, but I found 1

Spyderlock Wheels 756 Series - 17"x 9.5" - Bolt Pattern 5x5" - Backspacing 3.5" - Offset -38mm - Black w/Machined Ring ​

Does the width of the rim really make a big difference, the ATX is 17x9 and the Spyderlock is 17x9.5 but the back spacing and offset is identical.

From what I can tell they are almost the exact same wheel just different style beadlock ring.

I rhink the difference in width will cause you uneven tire wear and possibly some handling quirks. Your tires will profile differently on the wheels, with the narrower wheels "ballooning" the tire more. You may even end up with tires that don't ride at the same height. I think you could get away with a different width wheel as a spare, for short term use, but I think using it day to day will give you problems. This is if course if you plan on trying to run a mixed set of wheels. If you are replacing the whole set, the extra 1/2" isnt going to cause any noticeable difference in the look or handling of your jeep, if anything your tires may lose a little bit of the bulge in the sidewall.

Unless it (or your current wheel) was constructed way heavier with an extra 1/4" of thickness on the flanges the specs you list don't add up. Not possible to have the same BS & offset on two different width wheels

If all other specs are the same
9.5 with a 3.5" BS would have a -44mm offset
9.5 with a 3.75" BS would have a -38mm offset

My 2 cents, I could be screwed up on my thinking though.

The stud holes are damaged slightly. I did however today find a reputable local wheel shop and the owner said he can easily repair the rim by adding in steel inserts. So I am going to give it a try for 75 dollars.

Here are some pictures of the damage. Someone loosened my lug nuts in Tombstone AZ. As I Left the parking lot a lady in her car flagged me down as I just got on pavement to let me know there was a group of individuals around the front of my Jeep. When she was walking to her vehicle. They quickly scattered she said as she got closer to her vehicle. She noticed my wheel wobbling in the dirt lot as I was pulling away.

Good deal on the possible repair, hope that works for you. Fuck those people that did it, did you notify the local cops? Those assholes could kill a whole family doing that shit.

Steel wouldn’t melt like that from driving in a parking lot a short distance. Your lug nuts were loose and not torqued properly to begin with. Not denying the kids by the front of the vehicle but that damage was not caused by driving in a parking lot.

Ok, to be more specific I was trying to not drag the whole thing out. Little further explanation, I got on the pavement and if you been to Tombstone AZ, there is the main road that you hit to get to the I10 and it is 60 MPH, I was headed down that road at about 65 to 70 (Yes I was speeding). She was behind me flashing her head lights at me and then passed me and put on her Hazard lights about that time I noticed the wobbling in the wheel and pulled over to the side of the road and that is when she got out and let me know what had happened and my buddy and his wife noticed one stud was broken and lug nuts were missing. I was trying to keep it short.

The only reason I know the lug nuts where not loose prior is because a few days earlier I had Discount Tire do my tire balance and rotation and I watched them torque all the lug nuts on all my tires including the spare. I always watch as they do my 5 tire rotation. I stand outside the bay. Tucson the weather is nice and you can watch from the parking lot. I guess there is a possibilty of them vibrating loose but in all my years never had it happen.

We have also have had some yahoos damaging and slashing tires on SUVs in the area.

My wife and I grew up on a farm in small towns so right down the road to us, is like 5 miles. Such as how far is Bob's house, oh just down the road. 10 miles later, friend says just down the road and you respond yep.

I run ATX Slabs…I check the torque before every long trip, when going through the Jeep after a trip and sometimes before heading home after a ”hard” weekend of wheeling… Generally they stay tight.. but often I do get a few that need a couple pounds. I could see if ignored for long periods, shit going bad.

So, I got my Wheel repaired. The company did an awesome job. I cleaned up the bolts and put her back together.

Yea, they use steel inserts. Definitely worth it considering the price of a new wheel and the fact they don’t make Slabs anymore. It only cost me 75 dollars.
