Name That Tool

Valuable tool. Motorcraft makes one now and some dealers carry it. I've never seen a 5.4 head go, but not surprised. Seen many 4.6 ones, and 2 6.8 v10s go. Sad, because it isn't a cheap or easy fix.

Bought my 5.4 used and found a stuck plug. One piece Champion that snapped off just below the hex. I had to actually drill it out then use this kit.

Not just you. I have had 3 F150s with the 5.4, but on my second I had one of the OE 2 piece plugs break while driving out of state to buy a motorcycle. Ended up at a road side show and shelling out about $1k on a plug change, as 3 of the 8 broke. off. Luckly they had the Lisle tool for extraction, and things worked out - just took about 6 hours.

Around me the dealers all start at $3-400 on plug changes, but a mechanic buddy found the secret sauce (thus far - he did a change on one with ~120k miles with no breaks) of getting the engine warm (not hot) and using a smaller 12v impact driver to get them out.

FWIW, my dad has one of my old F150s, and does 30k intervals on plugs with one piece plugs now. Cheap insurance.
