Modding the 1.3L FireFly Powered Renegade... Tuning & More...

So... If you have modded or want to modify your 1.3L powered Renegade you probably know tuning is basically unavailable. Well... I'm ALMOST 100% positive that I have a guy who can do it. He actually specializes in tuning stock computers directly through the HEX system I believe is the term. He essentially told me anything that he can pull the stock file off of and read he can tune, and he was able to pull the file from the Renegade. He's out of the country for November working in Europe so I won't have the full monty on the Tuning until December when he gets back and we actually meet up to make it happen, but I'm confident and so is he. Once I know he can do it and I can vouch for him I will share his info. Once I found that out... I called a buddy over at Comp Turbo and discussed with them the option to upgrade my stock turbo. I purchased a used one from a Salvage Yard, it's still in great shape, and essentially they are going to put the largest billet wheel they can fit on it without causing any major issue or needing to much material taken off. He's guesstimating 20-30% more flow which with a little more boost could net us over 100HP at the wheels. I'm really excited to see how this goes... Yes it's a waste of money, yes it's a Renegade, but it's fun and I like taking the road less traveled with my cars. I would love to make 300whp with this thing as I think it would a ton of fun to toss around town.

Turbo landed... had to take a few things off then get it packed up and off to Comp Turbo. This is the used unit I purchased on Ebay, has approx 70k miles on it. ZERO shaft play and aside from a little corrosion she's in great shape. Going with the Red anodized wheel and the Metallic Grey Powdercoat on the Compressor housing like the bottom pic.

Meh.

Hemi swap or nothing.
Mike is a buddy of mine... He actually inspired me to swap a Renny, I bought a 2018 Limited Flood car 2 years ago, and it's been a LOOOONG... standing K24 Swap Project. Turning it into the first Drag Brick... aka Renegade aka Toaster... lol mounts are done, engine is out currently cleaning up the engine bay, and I still need a ton of parts to finish it, but Essentially will be a built 2.4L, Precision PT7685, Quaife Sequential, Action Triple Disc, Fuel Tech FT600, Speedfactory Turbo Manifold, DSS Level 5 Rear Axles, HellCat Center section w/ Custom Mounts, CF Driveshaft, and still have a ton more to buy, have zero fuel parts yet, still need wiring, shifter assembly, and so much more.

That sounds fun. Keeping the AWD? What kind of ET are you shooting for? High 7 should be possible with that big ass turbo? Anything is better than another civic on the track. :)

Depends on what the engine holds... with the weight of the Reny I'm guessing low 8's on a stock block, but I do have a Billet block as well, but I'm not gonna use that out of the gate until I get used to the setup and just in case shit goes sideways (rods meeting pavement) I'd much rather have that happen to the cast block and not the super expensive billet block. I've also been reading up on it and a lot of guys seem to be having excessive crank case pressure issues with the billet blocks resulting in valve covers basically popping because there is nowhere else for the pressure to go, so I definitely want to do my best to mitigate that concern as well. Turbo is good for 1350ish hp, I'm guessing 1150-1200whp is a reasonable goal potentially w/ a little nitrous to spool if necessary. Original plan was E85R, but I may just jump right to methanol which will save me space up front by eliminating the need for an intercooler. I haven't bought any fuel parts yet so that's up for debate until I can afford to start dropping money on that. Definitely ended up costing double what I expected as these things typically do especially when you start having parts made and I don't have near the equipment or tooling Mike does so I have to outsource a lot which is time and big $$$, and yes staying AWD. Using HellCat rear end parts and the typical Element AWD built to the hilt.

Seeing a Renegade on 4 drag slicks is definitely going to be unique and turn some heads. Lol!! I've joked with my wife about dropping a V8 in our Renegade forever but a turbo k-swap sounds a lot more doable. I assume you're familiar with the Boosted Boys kswap MR2?

Yeah I am, actually sourced a lot of the parts from my build through Kyle.
