This line, under the automatic transmission on a 2012+, is why you my need a skid.
Lol. Talk about poor design choices!

I know this would not be the ideal setup for hardcore wheeling, but until I can afford EVO sliders would the steel EVO rockskins provide a reasonable amount of protection on mellower trails? Love the look of them, extra body protection and the price is not bad at all!

They'll protect the face of the tub under the rocker panels, and maybe help potential buckling from hitting something underneath, but the skins and sliders sort of work together as a system to protect the tub and pinch seam. If you can only afford one at a time, the skins are a good first step since they would need to be installed before the sliders anyway.I know this would not be the ideal setup for hardcore wheeling, but until I can afford EVO sliders would the steel EVO rockskins provide a reasonable amount of protection on mellower trails? Agreed I found a set for my 12 brand new for $50. I also ran them on my 08 rubi in conjunction with the skins and I will say the skins got some use being drug on the rocks with only the rubi rails as they don't hold the tub away from rocks like bigger sliders.

I like the look of rubi rails and skins! Might have to go that route.
