LOL!! I'm seriously considering keeping the set of 37's currently on Rubicat if we ever get around to upgrading to 40's just so that I can use them for smog testing.

As a dmv or (mvd to be correct) employee here in AZ I cant tell you how many people I help who are so worried to get their vehicles emissioned or smog checked and then pass the test with flying colors! Glad to hear the test went smooth!

Honestly, I've never been worried about passing a sniff test, just the strict visual inspections we have here in CA. I've had a lot of bad experiences with this.

I think the CARB law has changed or about to change here in CA. The tail pipe emmisions test will no longer be used in the newer auto's. Only the visual, and electronic test's will be done.

I'm glad Moby passed.:clap2:

And to me, this sucks. To me, the only thing that should matter is what is coming out of the tailpipe. It pisses me off to no end that I couldn't get my old CJ to pass smog even though it was burning super clean and all because I upgraded it to a much cleaner and efficient fuel injection system. What was under the hood is what got me to fail :rolleyes2:

Nice. Like Sharkey and MTG said we have to get it done annually here in Nevada. What were you concerned about on the visual inspection?

Here in CA, any modification that you do under the hood or even to your exhaust system can get you to fail inspection. This is one of the biggest reasons why I changed out my PJ CAI to an AIRAID - I knew I was coming up for inspection and AIRAID is one of the only kits that have a CARB number. Even with that, the inspection mechanic had to check every inch of it. Of course, there's my PSC reservoir and ARB compressor that draws the untrained eye and opens the door to questions about performance mods. Then, there's the exhaust, I run a Dynomax Rock Crawler and it dumps before the axle. This is technically a foul as well but the inspector let it go. Like I said before, the first 3 stations I went to took one look at Moby and said to move along.

Ah, I didn't know they were that picky about the induction and outflow mods. I always thought if the numbers were right, it didn't matter. But it is CA. ;)

I don't have a CAI, just a drop in filter, but I do have the same Dynomax exhaust and in the same location as you. Thankfully, there is no tailpipe poking here anymore.

The good news is at least you have a SMOG shop that is first on your list to try next year!

Your lucky. We had to smog test my bros 07 oh about 2 summers ago and in CO if you have over 33s they will not put it on the dyno. Some say there are some that do but they turned us down as well. It was such an ordeal to get my brothers jeep tested. This is more than likely the reason why I have 33s on my rig and not 35s... :gaah:

This is what we had to do to get it tested.

We removed my front tires from my 09 which were stock Rubicons and put them on his rear and drove it to the DMV and said test the damn thing.

California Bureaucracy is alive and well. I had a Datsun 240Z for 30 years. At one point I was told that it wouldn't pass inspection because the diameter of the gas filler hole was too big and would allow a leaded gas pump to be used to fill the gas tank. I had to remind the inspector that it was a moot point since California had stopped selling leaded gas altogether and the only place to get unleaded gas was out of state where it would not effect California emissions. It took me an hour of argument and the inspector's call to his boss in Sacramento before I got the okey dokey from the all knowing, all seeing great and wonderful goverment wonk. :whew:

IMHO, smog test should only be exhaust sniff test, since it's what's coming out that counts. Ok for visual inspection on parts that could leak and polute, but otherwise I don't think a full inspection would be necessary.

Congrats on the pass. I'm very happy here in FL, no inspection. Moby looked like it was going to eat that dyno...:clap2:

This is one reason I love living where I do. Every year I send the DMV $85 and I get my stickers, nothing else to it

In NY we only had to get it registered every two years. And it was under $100. Inspected every year though but I had a buddy who owned an automotive shop and I just went and got a sticker and put it on. :cheesy:

Even though there is nothing questionable about the exhaust on my Jeep, I always stress out over the smog test. When it didn't pass this past summer I was stressed. Turned out the evap cannister needed to be changed and that was it. The Jeep passed and with flying colors.

Glad I dont live in a state that has all these kinds of rules.. I was Born In Ca, I visit there almost weekly, But never plan to live there ever again. If by chance I ever do, I will just keep an out of state ups store address, and my cars/ Jeeps will remain titled outside CA just to avoid this crap.

You would think Californa would learn by now, they are losing People / Jobs / and company's due to all there over regulation, and over taxing.
