Well today didn't go quite as planned but turned out better than expected.
My wife and I were up all night with our youngest daughter who had some sort of really nasty stomach problem. Aside from just being dead dog tired this morning, we didn't really see any way to get her too far away from a restroom, if you catch my meaning. So I messaged and called 2013rubirick to let him know we wouldn't be able to join them today. They actually offered to delay their departure for us but I really didn't see it happening at that point.
Well a couple hours later my daughter says that she's feeling some better and that she'd like to try to go on a trail. Well I had really been looking forward to Sevenmile Rim with everyone so I thought we'd go ahead and do it and maybe catch up with the group.
That's exactly what happened. We caught them just as they were finishing lunch, playing on some big ledges, and doing some trailside maintenance. Well I really have never met a nicer group. They welcomed us right in and Rick immediately started convincing me that I not only could, but needed to drive up the ledges. I had never tried anything like them but he promised it would be a cakewalk. Well I finally told myself that I hadn't put the Enforcer on the JK for going to the mall. So ten (well maybe fifteen) minutes after meeting the group, Rick already had me crawling up the ledges. Thanks, Rick! :thumb:
MagellanJenn led some of us on to Wipeout hill. During the side crawl right before it by Merrimac Butte, I realized that my wife had become catatonic. For real. I had to poke her in the ribs and tell her that it was okay to let go of the Oh Shit handles when we had stopped afterwards and I was actually getting out of the Jeep. She said later that her brain just shut down she was so scared. She said right about midpoint she realized that we were on the "Mind Screw" trail from the Wayalife video and hadn't realized that was the trail we were doing. That's when she tuned out. :cheesy:
Well while she sat in the Jeep recovering, my daughters and I went over to where Jenn and her daughter were watching people doing Wipeout hill. The next thing I know, Jenn has her daughter Avery driving her JK down...and then back up! Now THAT was impressive!
My wife never really recovered from her scare and asked if we could go ahead and leave so we cut out before everyone else did. We only got to wheel with part of the group for about an hour but had a great time. Hopefully we actually get the chance to do some complete trails with them in the future.
So thanks to:
2013rubirick (and Mrs.2013rubirick)
CrippledPetey and MagellanJenn
JKU-Tom
branman
and anyone I forgot to mention for a great finish to what looked to be a terrible day this morning!
Hopefully I didn't break my wife. She was really freaking me out she was so petrified after the side crawl.
