I live in northern California and I'm new to the jeep world. How do I find trails? I've been looking online. Are there any good websites with trail info? Please help. I need to get in the hills.
Thanks

If you have a smart phone download the "AllTrails" application. It uses GPS and will find local trails close to you. You can search for hiking or Offroad trails. Pretty cool and it's free.

There is a maze of trails up out of Placerville at the end of Mosquito Road. It is just all easy fireroad type stuff but still fun to explore when you don't have the time to fo further up the hill. Same thing off Sly Park in Pollock Pines.

I was up on the Mosquito Road trails on Sat and did find some good rocks at the end of one of the trails that required some driving....

For the better techical trails that book linked is a good one. Keep in mind though that I believe a bunch of the EDCO trails are still closed. For more weekend/overnight type of trips Gold Lake area in Plumas County is awesome, and then there are a bunch down in Calaveras County off of 88 and 4.

Here I am, thinking that after I buy and build my JKUR I'll be able to hop in on the weekends and drive out into the mountains of Main/NH/Vermont/Western MA and be able to get off the pavement :tearsdrip:

That will change the build a little :cussing:

Looks like the weekends will be a little longer as it will take a day to get ther, and one to return :Disappointed:

Yea, all the awesome stuff you see guys in UT/CO/CA posting...we have nothing even close to that on the East Coast. Other than a few offroad parks, there is nothing to even give a stock rubi a run for its money around us.

Google'ing and looking through all the online sources (quickly though) it looks like the longest stretch of ClassIV was 4 miles, and takes 1.4 hours.. Not exactly a weekend worth of driving. Most of the roads in VT are all in seperate counties also. Not like you goind drive one, and get another 2-3 in an afternoon, they are alll a couple hours apart.

Looking up info in NH looks a little more promising, seems like there are more trails, but getting maps and info seems a little more scarce and like you need to contact the state.

Havn't checked Maine yet...

May have to fly out to the west, and rent a jeep to get my adventure on (Or hook up and ride Shotgun with our brothers out there)...

Just do what I did...grab a buddy, pack up the rig, and take your Jeep out west. Awesome roadtrip.

trails.com
dirtopia.com

Are both pretty good sites. Trails.com is a pay site to get all the topomaps and stuff. I use it to find the trailheads then Google Earth to do the rest.
