Ok…he spent time in a tent after the park
Well…the “food” wasn’t gone….Ok…he spent time in a tent after the park
Closed for the season…and the salmon (and food) was long gone…
Nope…a couple guides carry bear spray, but that’s it…unless you’re toting a slug gun, it’s really not effective to have a sidearm with them that closeWell…the “food” wasn’t gone….
I get it, I was just busting balls. I would have a hard time not killing everyone of them, that was that close. Self preservation ya know. I’m sure you carry what you need to extinguish the problem if needed.
Years ago Smith & Wesson marketed a short barrel 500 magnum for backpacking in bear country. When I asked the Smith rep why the grips of the gun were blaze orange he said "It's easier to spot in a pile of bear shit so they can figure out exactly which bear ate you"Nope…a couple guides carry bear spray, but that’s it…unless you’re toting a slug gun, it’s really not effective to have a sidearm with them that close
Is that the famous Otis? He’s at least 27 years old and has a huge social media following. Im so jealous right now. That is my dream trip.View attachment 395648
This guy was watching the salmon swim by…moments later he pounced on one…
Probably not…I saw at least 60 different bears…the only Otis I know of was Otis Redding…Is that the famous Otis? He’s at least 27 years old and has a huge social media following. Im so jealous right now. That is my dream trip.

I would imagine a rocket launcher would be tough to fit in a tackle boxLooks like another awesome trip Ed. Thanks for sharing.
All the AK guides I know would choose bear spray over a sidearm. However, they usually carry both for good measure.
I’m starting to think I should get my waders out of the bag and string up a rod…I'm starting to think Bears like Asian Food.
I haven’t eaten bear meat in over 50 years…I don’t remember, except I didn’t care for it (it was a black bear). I do love venison & elk however…Is bear meat fatty?
I think it all depends on if it’s a spring or fall bear. Before or after hibernation, I think fall bear is better. I had a boss that would try to get a bear a year, for his dog’s food.Is bear meat fatty? Yummy and a good rug.

We are fogged in at the lodge (I was supposed to fly out to Iliamna an hour ago) when this young guy sauntered up the trail and is sitting at the fire pit I was sitting at the other evening…
