JL EVO tire carrier gap

I helped a friend of mine install his EVO carrier today, and where the mounts go through the body, it leaves large gaps. Am I missing something, or is this the way EVO intended it to be.

It seems like a lot of water and debris will get into those gaps

LOL, I dident notice the date. It was at the top on the new post on my side so I answered.... HAHA my bad.

What is also odd was when I answered there was only 3 post now it show 2 pages. O well.
