I would rate the trail at a 5 but this would be my first 4X4 trail rating ever... Someone else please chime in and rate it too! Great views and has a lot of cool sections in it!!
The trail is tight in a lot of places with one real tight switchback before you drop down to the lake and has some good rocky sections in it. Last year two of us rode dual sport bikes up there and the other two in our group drove up there in a stock 2006 4X4 F250 crew cab short bed and made it all the way to the lake and then when they turned around to leave we realized the 4X4 was not working. The 35 BFG all terrain tires were aired down and made all the uphill's going in...the only exception was the climb out from the lake (about 600 yards up to the decent down the mountain) because it started to rain and that area is all shale/lava rock! We got towed out to the decent by a four runner there.
In a 4X4 jeep you will be good... High elevation at 11,00 feet at the top... Thin air for sure!!
