I need help! 6 speed or AUTO

trailless

Caught the Bug
I went to the dealer today and I saw two rubicons on the lot. One with the 6 speed and well you guessed it one with the AUTO. Going to get a Rubi this saturday!

I know this has been posted before. However, it seems that people always have something to say about this subject. Please, let's keep any bashing out of this thread.

So what do you have and why did you choose it over the other.

(if this is a useless subject, let me know i'll delete it)

Thanks!

I think its probably a personal preference :) I've heard either or will work on a trail but personally I just really like manuals :D Better mpg (Yay ECO points!) and it just feels like you have more control over the vehicle. But I'm no expert :D On a sideline though.....urban legend says that manuals are least likely to get stolen :dont_tell:

I personally went with the 6 speed because don in SE Texas, most of our offroad is mud, and a manual is easier to rock back and forth to wiggle out of sticky mud. That and so my wife doesn't take it all the time. Cant speak to the benefits of auto.

I got a manual more power has down, but it seems people enjoy auto more because it's easier to wheel. ...... trying to wheel wile using the cb; clutch, gas, brake can be a little tricky of your gonna use it as a daily driver you might wanna get a auto people tend to get annoyed after a while with a stick. ... it also makes you a safer driver; it kinda keeps you from being on the phone ,eating, drinking especially texting. Having a stick is work, but I love mine:yup:thumbup:

the first step is admitting you have a problem. .... Hello everyone I'm hdawg and I'm a jeep-a-halic

Btw you don't save that much in gas especially with 37's 4 inch lift and 5.13 gears lol

Thanks for the input. I know Eddie switched to Moby to a Auto but I would too if I were as serious of a mall crawler as he is ;)

Anyways, we went on a test drive today and I didn't notice and marbles in a tin can sound, just the shifter shaking a bit. I'm guessing that's normal for a truck?

BTW i'm set on getting the 6 speed now. Just have to relearn how to drive one... been a few years.

Ah , the old manual VS. auto debate . I noticed you are a newbe here . I'm sure with little effort of searching , you can find this fight somewhere else .

That's very, very true :) plus all the mods and gear weight, wind drag from other do-hickies added, the mpg is a lost cause :D That and its...well..a jeep, with hilarious gas mileage anyway :) That said, I just can't picture riding a jeep in an auto... the manual is just so much more fun :D But that again is probably a personal preference :)

Wow. No auto arguments. Yes the shifter shaking a little is normal. And as far as re learning to drive it, just remember the old phrase "if you cant find it, grind it".

I went with an auto because my wife might need or want to drive it someday and she doesn't know how to drive a stick. I also chose the auto because I find I have to multitask when driving with my kids and it's a lot easier with an auto. I also read something on here where someone said it is a lot easier and enjoyable to wheel, overland, offroad, etc with an auto. Just my two cents.

I have an auto because I've had a couple of surgeries on my left foot which causes me a lot of pain some days. So an auto is a lot friendlier if you end up injuring your left leg/foot.

I'm sorry. I know I'm a fresh catch... It's just fun interacting with people and getting responses accordingly. I also think it's been a while since I've seen this topic debated here.

6 speed here too, it just takes me back 30+ years in high school cruising with my buddy in his brand new 25th anniversary silver cj with a stick (yes his folks were well to do). Just seems like a jeep thing to shift

Thanks for the reply. Whenever I tell an older person that I'm getting a jeep, they say it better be a stick. It's the only way to DRIVE a Jeep!

6 speed all the way. Auto is more convenient, but if you really want fun and control of your Jeep go with the 6 Speed.

All my Jeep Wrangles have been manual trannies and never had any regrets.

When I got my JK they had two identical JK Islanders... auto and six speed..

Drove both...

Left that day with the six speed

My opinion... but I'm a JK newbie.. my YJ was a five speed

Get an auto. If you really liked manual and knew the benefits, you would never ask which to buy. Mine is manual and I love it!
