the Rubi's used to come with 4.10's as a standard option until FCA realized how popular the automatic was and decided they could make more by making it an option.
so..it's a money thing
I was thinking it was to pad the fuel economy numbers. Never thought of it that way.

Stock Rubicon is pretty dang capable. I've done...I was able to do pretty much everything the lifted/modified jeeps were able to do. So long as you have some sort of rock sliders (stock sliders work well) you'll be fine.
