Hurricane Milton

Figured it’s own thread would be good since I’m sure there will be more posts to come.

Florida is already getting hammered by rain before the hurricane even makes landfall. Seems to be another tropical depression on the east coast of FL. Best of luck to anyone staying in Florida! My parents and brother are sticking it out in Sarasota. They dropped a bunch of trees near their properties ahead of time.

Those trees will still be dangerous as floating battering rams if they get the forecasted storm surge. There is already tons of storm debris piled up on streets that were hit by Helene and all of that debris will be banging into everything in their path.

The good news is, it's going west to east across Florida and then out to sea.

The bad news is, Florida is gettin dry humped again.
Unfortunately it won't be dry. There will be a lot of lubricant with rain and big storm surge. Storm surge isn't like a rising tide. It is a tsunami wall of water.

If they had more time, then of course they would get rid of it… He had to prep 13 houses for this hurricane. There’s more of a chance of these trees falling on roofs than floating around since they aren’t right on the coast.

My parents are close to the red dot, luckily it’s a block home with a metal roof. I’m glad that my brother is staying with them during this storm since his house is stick built and is lower elevation.
We have friends in Sarasota also who weren’t able to evacuate. Hoping those who stayed behind fare well and safely.👍

Just got off the phone with my parents, doesn’t seem to be too bad for them. My dad has been hanging out on their back porch for the last couple of hours even while the eye wall passed over them 😂 they lost power for a little while but it’s back on.

They are by the red dot under Sarasota .

The storm was not good but also not as bad as the weathermen had predicted (hoped). They have been repeatedly been hit by storms the last few years with Ian being the worst I think. Thankfully my family was safe in north central Florida and even though Helene's eye past over us we only lost a tree and some shingles. Florida's coast and mainland expect hurricane activity but the unfortunate people of middle Georgia, Western North Carolina and Tennessee do not expect hurricane devastating damage and I think they will have a more difficult time recovering.

The hurricane is not what did the damage. It was the four days of rain we got prior to the hurricane getting here.
