I went bone stock (suspension/tires) with only a winch & a CB my first time. If I had it to do over again, I'd have done a little armor underneath before I went on trail. That being said, you see all sorts of rigs out there. Old military trucks, full on caged buggys, full size pick ups, FJ's, CJ's/YJ's/TJ's/WJ's... hell I saw someone trying to take a RAV4 up a trail before. Bring what you got, drive smart, and you should be just fine. You don't need 35's (37's? 40's?) to enjoy yourself and your Jeep.

If I could only pick two pieces of gear for a first trip it would be a skid plate & a CB. About $500 for both and you can DIY for $0 labor costs.

A lot of trails at Rausch Creek can be done stock, or just take the bypasses on the harder stuff.

I was wondering about the winch and that trail....we are getting one but not until the Fall (looking at Ramseys). We have Anchor Shackles though if things get desperate (also skid plates already @ a Rubicon) but, we may stick to the Green trail to start. My #1 concern is Mud and being from the East Coast this time of year can be a real disaster without a good winch...so greens for us sounds like a good plan! This way we can get some practice in, hang out with everyone and have some fun. Will anyone else be doing greens? :D :D

There is always a green group and if you don't have a winch, just make sure to stick yourself near someone who does in case things get a little too slippery.

I was hoping to make it to the jan and feb trips, and i had the time off from work to do both, then they switched me to another team and i lost the days, but ill definitely be doing s long weekend or two down there in the spring and summer.

In the warmer months, there's lots of camping and hanging out by the fire. In the colder months, there are a few good places to grab a bite as a group in the area & depending how far away from RC you live, to crash at the Comfort Inn.
