How did your JK come to be

I want to know if there are anyone out there like me that has a story to go with how your JK came to be
Mine, sadly I myself didn't buy it, it was a gift, whatever I got one and love it

Once upon a time my dad and I were on our way back from a car show, 45 minutes from our house. We were in his 2002 ford thunderbird (the thunderbird he was wanting to sell, he had it listed at a dealership for a few months, no one was interested, the dealership where he bought it two years before wouldn't even consider taking it back for a trade in, even though he bought it from a friend who works at the dealership). As we were driving a silver JKU passed us on the freeway and I said "that's what I'm going to buy myself when I get some money in college" (I was wanting a two door manual, soft top, half doors, no A/C which would end up being around $21,000) and he said lets go check some out, since there was a new jeep dealership that just opened by our house. We get there and there are some really awesome jeeps but none that would be in my future price range, we move closer and he is really taken by this white 2 door rubicon, I told him it would be a while till I get one of those. Once I said that here comes a sales guy here to try as sell us a jeep. We get to talking and my dad asks if they would be interested in his thunderbird, they said that they could get it appraised. Once we get inside the building my dad turns to me and says "We're just looking so don't get your hopes up" a few minutes later we take a deep cherry red auto JKU soft top for a spin, come back and get the paperwork started. I thought that he would get to the bottom line and say "Oh well it's just not for me" but he didn't and I drove out of there with a new 2013 Deep Cherry Red JKU, this is my dads first 4x4 vehicle he's ever owned and he's owned a lot. But hey we were just looking.

And that's my story I'm planning on keeping this jeep for the rest of my life just swapping out the engine and such, to keep it as a toy, but who knows

Looking forward to read these stories
Thanks JKU EXTREME

You live in Harlingen and you didn't want ac?? Were you born on the sun?!

The first car that I ever bought was a Chrysler 300 that was my dad's company car. They offered a ridiculous deal on it when he was up for a new one and I ended up splitting it with my parents. I drove that for a few years and when I was away in Tennessee working with the Volunteers football team my mom was using it to drive to and from work. Apparently there was a hail storm that caused enough damage for the insurance company to total the 300. I bought my 2007 2dr with the check that the insurance company gave me

I always have the windows down, rain, shine, hot, or cold
But I was wanting no A/C because it's cheaper a few hundred bucks or maybe one thousand but that's money I could use to buy a used a/c unit and lights but I got a/c in this one so I stay cool when it's hot and warm when it's (60F) "cold"

Started thinking about a vehicle change... I wanted rear wheel drive, manual tranny, and I really wanted it to be a new Camaro. I got tired of waiting for them to come out, after many delays. About the time they FINALLY started to come out, I was having second thoughts. I would have to get the big motor, and all the trimmings... no point to having a camaro without a big motor, or so I believe. Then I started thinking about loosing my DL beause I would drive like I was 16 again. SO....I knew my then 4x4, a mildly lifted Chevy Tahoe was getting long in the tooth, and a Jeep came to mind. We stopped by the dealer on a whim, and found the little red JK.... with only two options. 32" tires, and AC.... all I needed.... in a Jeep! LOL....

My beloved Tahoe was kept for boat pulling duty, but was totaled by a sleeping driver about a year later.

Sorry to hear about that dumb luck that was bestowed upon you, you're lucky you got the 32"'s, I got the below stock 16" pizza cutters (28.3"/8.9") but no matter going to get them swapped before I hit 5,000 miles

Well SWMBO and I were talking about reducing our monthly fuel bill. When you are dumping over $700 a month in just fuel in a Ram 2500 diesel you begin to think. We originally we looking at a TJ but people in Florida really like their used Jeeps. I mean really like them. So we went across the river for something and then started to head back to the homestead when in missed out turn. So we went to just look at our favorite dealership. Well all the used ones were autos's and we wanted a manual. We saw this black JK on the lot and inquired about it. It was a 2011 4dr with 14,808 miles, hard top and 32" MT Baja ATZ's. Again we were just looking. 4.5 hours later we had a Black JKU 4dr in the drive way. Since then we have traded SWMBO's Lexus in on a 2914 Grand Cherokee. We still have the beast just now a tank of fuel last more than a week.

My story is kinda said to keep it short. Always loved jeeps as a Kid. Dad got an old cj in 1997(7 yrs old at the time) for me and him to restore. Finished restoration in 2005:clap2:. Dad passed in 2006:crybaby:, mom sold cj in 2007:crybaby::banghead:. Got my licence late 2007 begged mom for jeep but got ford exploder, treated it like a jeep:driving:.... Mom passed in 2011 of cancer:crybaby:,:misery: Treated my depression in 2012 by making my dream of owning a jeep come true by ordering a 2013 jkur late november and soon after killed my exploders engine and drove a shitty little rental for 2 months till i got my jeep February 8th:happy_crying:... Life is getting better now:celebrate:

I said I really liked the new 4-door Wranglers.
my wife simply said "So why don't you get one?"
:clap2:

I have never bought a new car for myself. Bought my wife one, but I had never spent more than 10K on a vehicle for myself before...and I considered the 10K car a splurge at that.

I was in the need of a new car and living in Northern Nevada I preferred something with AWD or a 4WD. I'd never owned a 4WD vehicle before. I saw a 4 door jeep one day (bone stock) and remembered how I enjoyed driving my older brother's 1987 wrangler with the top off. But I also remembered how much of a dog it was to drive, especially at altitude and while going to the lake. I was really reluctant to spend the money on a new car and was looking hard at another used car. Then I started contemplating something new. Anyway, I was seriously contemplating an Audi A6 wagon or Subaru WRX STI. But I was also looking at fun cars like a Porsche 911 and Mercedes Benz E55 AMG. I went and drove a jeep to "get it out of my system" and remind myself how crappy they drove. Well, the 2011 I drove was pretty nice. I then found a forum that talked about a new/better engine coming out, and, as they say...the rest is history. :yawn37:

Edit: Oh and my wife said "make it look cool" when I bought it. Of course at the time I thought that would result in a budget boost and 33"s. :cheesy:

Right! Dang..
I told my wife I wanted a 4dr, her hair turned into snakes and her eyes into fire...lol..
I eventually got my Jeep when my Corolla started crapping out. Now life is good. Still trying to get rid of these damn snakes though..lol

I had a 2004 F250 Powerstroke Diesel 4x4 that I had spent quite a bit of money upgrading the head gasket, studs, EGR cooler, replaced the oil cooler (typical 6.0L issues that I upgraded), added a coolant filter, upgraded the locking hubs, replaced the front swaybar links (after one broke), and various other mods. The interior was bedlined and I LOVED that truck. However, my wife hated it due to the amount of money that I had poored into it due to things breaking (and me replacing those broken parts with better ones). With the price of diesel going up and the cost of maintenance, I told her that I would only trade it in if I could get a good price on a Jeep because I had always wanted one. She urged me to look because she had always wanted a Jeep as well. Needless to say, I found a 2008 rescue green JKU at a great price and the dealership gave me $2000 more than I expected for my F250. Now my only regret is that I didn't buy the JKU instead of the F250 originally so that I could have spent the $5000 that it cost to upgrade the F250 on the Jeep instead.

Either way, I wouldn't doubt it if my wife regrets urging me to get the Jeep now that I continue to poor time and money into it now that I cought the bug to lift it, etc.

egads, that vision is going to give me nightmares

Yea, my wife is awesome. She spoils me.

My story is kinda based off of impulse. So it was on a Wednesday and my dad, myself and another coworker were all talking at work. The one guy was telling my dad that he should trade in one of his trucks and get a jeep so they could go out wheelin. Well me who has a '05 silverado in need of some minor TLC and was considering a new vehicle anyway...chimed in and told my dad that we should go look at jeeps. This happened on a Wednesday. We went looking Friday, found two jeeps and went back Saturday morning and bought them.

Everytime we were ready to purchase a vehicle we always looked at a Jeep, but sadly never got one. Speed up to 2011. My truck was on the outs and we decided to look at Kias and Jeeps. Test drove a Sorento...I could not fit in a Sportage. It was all right, not great. Got in the Jeep and wife drove it first and then I did. I got to say we both had this goofy grin on our faces and knew what we were purchasing that day. Been loving it ever since. We are Jeep people. We love the outdoors, exploring and enjoying nature. I also found a couple of awesome forums I am a member of and enjoy watching the videos he and his wife produce. Now I'm into Jeep Porn!

Wow these are all great stories, it's good to know that I'm not the only one with a weird, elaborate story to go along with how I got the amazing offroad machine I have today

Thanks a million JKU EXTREME

Ever since i was young i always knew i wanted an offroad vehicle, i had a small quad then got a bigger quad before i got my license. I thought i would be in a pickup and getting closer to getting my license i was looking at a cummins and a tacoma. The thought of a sportscar crossed my mind but i knew i would end up dead if i got one. I was looking into jeeps but wanted something i could pack up with snowboards and what not so a 2 door wasnt for me. Until my parents told me they would match what i pay for my car i started searching for a good deal on a jku. after about 4 months of searching every single day i found an 07 X with 86,000 miles on it for just under 15,000. Got it over a year ago and i dont think i want to ever get rid of it

I just thru myself on the ground at the jeep dealership in late 07 and kicked and cried and thru a fit until my wife said I could have one! No really that's what happened and it was worth it! :clap2:
