Hi all. I am in the Denver area. I currently don't have a jeep, but am shopping for either a Jl or JT Rubicon. I currently have a 2002 Xterra that purchased new in 2001. A wrangler was not in my sights at the time, but I think it's time. The xterra has an 84 wagoneer D44 axle swapped up front from the IFS. So I kinda got a jeep, it drives like an old jeep. It's has 5.13 gears, 4:1 transfer case gears, 35x12.5 R15 tires, custom frame welded bumper. Done most trails in CO and Moab area.

I'm leaning towards the wrangler, as it's closer to the xterra in wheelbase, but seeing the gladiators on the channel is making the decision tough.

I found Eddie's youtube while doing research for the purchase. A dealer offered me $23k off the sticker for a 4xe rubicon x. But after seeing many forums and videos, the 4xe seems more fitted to urban driving. As with the xrerra, the new jeep would be a weekend vehicle so the hybrid junk is just added weight to lug around.

Great to have you here! I used to love the old XTerras. They were like poor man Discos LOL

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in finding a good deal on a Jeep and look forward to seeing you here on the forum :)

Have you done a video on jl vs jt showing pros and cons?

Well one has a bed and is longer. Other than that they're the same.

Lol, Xterras are cool - welcome to Wayalife!
I like to truck camp. I can currently shove all gear on one side and lay with the back seat flat to sleep without touching the tail or front seat. I'm 6ft. The gladiator has a short bed, so tent setup. The wrangler looks long enough with the seat moved forward. I'm leaning towards this with the sky top.

Is the 35 inch package worth it? It seems like it would be nice, but a decent lift looks easy to install with simple tools. I would likely get it regeared to 4.88 or 5.13 and get 35 or 37s after a year or so. See how the truck works stock and see if I need to upgrade. I did so many trails in Moab and Colorado with a stock xterra, and the upgrades made them easier. I could do more trails, but some I would avoid no matter what. I absolutely value function over form on a 4x4. Dings and pinstriping are badges of honor, right?

And what's with the ducks?

I vote Wrangler then for your needs. Yes 35 package with lower gears of your choice (4.56 or 4.88 from factory) is the best Jeep you can buy out of the box.

Ducks are gay. We don't do that gay stuff here.

Welcome to Wayalife! My first vehicle was a manual 2001 xterra, loved it until I wrecked it! It was as base model as you could get it, even had roll up windows lol
