HD Spare tire carrier

The MOPAR carrier isn’t a bad option for a 35. The only other one I have personally installed is the EVO carrier. The carrier itself works great and is strong replacing all of the OEM hinges. I just really hate the camera setup they did on it.

Believe others on here have had good luck with I believe Rusty’s? I’m sure others will chime in.

I threw a Rusty's carrier on my JL. I've had a Chamber Pro with a 37" Trail Grappler on it (fairly heavy combo) as well as a 37" BFG on a Method wheel (on the lighter side) and had no issues at all. I've seen pretty much all of those style carriers on JL's and personally like the Rusty's the best.
Can't say much about the camera set up on it - it seemed OK until I accidentally smooshed the shit outta the damn camera wire and have a cool blue screen when in R now....

I've got RuggedRidge on my 2018 JLU, Nitto 37 on KMC Beadlock. was holding up well.
I say was, because recently I've noticed some sag, need to check for hinge bolt(s) that have worked loose.

I second Rusty’s. Awesome product and you have room to go up to 37 or 40’s.
Never had an issue with mine. No noises or any rattle ever. No camera wire issues either.

I’m in the market for a better tire carrier than my teraflex and was leaning towards the EVO carrier. However, after watching Eddie and Cindy’s video I came to the realization that I would need a few parts from the stock carrier for it to work. Specifically you need the actual tire mounting plate and the camera housing, all of which were trashed long ago. This was confirmed by EVO where I was told to source those parts on marketplace or ebay.

So, I’m now looking at a Rusty’s carrier. Those who have it, have you had it at any speed in the desert? Is there any vibrations, flex, breakage?

Thanks!

I’ve had both, currently running EVO and am pretty happy with it when I’m moving, even at speed. But you do need those parts and Idk if I need to dial some stuff in, but it’s make my tire feel unbelievably heavy when opening the door and the door drops a bit, which I just can’t seem to figure out, it is annoying but it’s rock solid when driving around and can’t justify buying the Rusty’s one at this point which I was very happy with back on my Red JL, can’t recall if you needed the parts from stock carrier at all but I think not.

Mines been on for a couple years now and there isn't anything to not like about it. The powdercoating is still holding up great, which is pretty rare on aftermarket parts. I've seen the EVO carrier up close and honestly I'd give the Rusty's the nod. We don't really do the high speed stuff but it held up fine at Sand Hollow running around out there on the access roads and dunes. It's been whacked quite a few times offroad with no issues. I'm confident if you went this way you'd be happy with it.

Thanks! Yeah, just found out you need the OEM parts for the Rusty’s one too. So glad I threw all that stuff away! 🤦‍♂️
