GraniteCrystal build thread

Took the skid plate off in preparation for new bumper. Didn't order the skid plate for the new one. Hoping it still looks good and I can forego that piece.

Next thing for my mind to chew on: the must be a better way to isolate D rings than ball cock shank washers and expensive things from Daystar.

I keep my D-rings in a duffel bag along with all of my straps, snatch block & soft shackles. I put them on when I go offroad but take them back off again when done. Otherwise they beat up your bumpers and the shanks wear through the paint on the mounting points. Unless you really like the look (and I get it - they do look cool) I'd leave them off until you need them

When we put the Zeon on the WJ, it covered the entire grill. First mountain drive resulted in overheating, almost hit 260F. I was convinced that the winch was the cause. After doing some research and even talking to local jeepers, the consensus was NO WAY. There was something wrong with the cooling system. Come to find out, when hot, the fan clutch was not engaging. New fan clutch fixed all issues. Up until today....... It's been about 2 years, and fan clutch took a shit again today. We are in the mountains a ton, and literally Just today it failed again. Just fixed it and updated my build thread. When warm after driving, the clutch should be firm and spin with resistance, ours was turning freely with no resistance. Check your fan.

Interesting idea! Any breakdown in the rubber? My ball cock shank washers look like this after a year.

There is minimal cracking (I do park in a garage at night), but I expect they'll keep doing the job for at least a couple more years. Not bad for about $2.

I'll take a closer look later and see if I can't get a picture.

👍thanks. Looks like a much better solution though. The washers I've been using are a huge pain in the butt to get on there.

Yeah, the grommets were a little tough to get lined up with the pin too (I think I used a pair of skinny needle nose to hold the grommet in place). I may not have gone this route if I planned on removing the D-rings often.
