Have had my diesel JT 1 year, 28k miles clocked in this year and not a single problem. Love mine, wouldn't have made another choice other than a 392 unlimited maybe... but that is a bit pricey for me. Needless to say, know a few people with either diesel JT's or JL's.. not one problem. I have read about problems/seen some youtube videos. Sure it can happen, but from a reliability standpoint, these are gen 3 motors and the prior gen's have easily clocked 300k+ miles. Hoping that is the case for me, but you never know with the amount of tech and emissions gear on these rigs. Good luck in your choice, but I think Overlander is right... bunch of hearsay.This. I have heard of zero JT people with issues with diesels. Bunch of hearsay.
i have my 2021 JT Rubicon ecodiesel in Italy and am repositioning it to South America for a 4month trip this summer and fall. Because of concerns with the high sulfur diesel in S.America i am for sure removing the Particulate Filter and the system related to the DEF together with an engine remap by a reputable Jeep and Defender workshop here. They claim that removing the EGR is not necessary. Any comments or advice pleaase? thanks.I have worked in all 4 Chrysler plants in the Kokomo, Indiana area. I have had general discussions with plant engineers in those plants. There are intercompany communications that discuss problems with various make, models, trim levels.
I don't put a lot of faith into what "I read on the internet". But as I said earlier, I have seen non-diesel owners who bought diesels scream the sky is falling when the systems do what they're supposed to do when specific conditions occur. Some of those problems are the ReGen not happening, ever, and the vehicle shuts down. The DEF system malfunctioning and shutting down because it "sees" the DEF is empty and yet the DEF tank is full.
These are the glitches that are happening with no rhyme or reason and they're trying to figure it out.
But neither here nor there, Stellantis doesn't like the 3.0 and so be it. FCA loved it.
